About Project Showcase: Mjukvit (Soft White)
Minimalist design is not just about white walls. It is about the hardware and the finish that keeps a space looking fresh instead of messy. For this home, we used matte-finish laminates and soft-close hinges that disappear into the joinery, ensuring the storage stays functional without breaking the visual calm of the room.
When we started the Mjukvit project, the challenge was to create a space that felt light and airy without it feeling sterile. In Bangalore, where dust and clutter can quickly ruin a minimal aesthetic, our focus was on high-quality, easy-to-clean materials.
We used BWP (Boiling Water Proof) marine-grade plywood for the structural carcasses to ensure durability, especially given our humid climate. For the finish, we opted for off-white matte laminates. Unlike high-gloss, matte surfaces do not show every fingerprint and scratch, which is crucial for a home that needs to live well.
The warmth comes from the light oak shelves and the intentional use of textures. That striking teal main door was a deliberate choice to break the monotony of the white palette, providing a visual anchor. We also utilized hidden mood lighting in the TV unit to soften the room during the evenings.
Our process here was the same as any site we take on. We managed the design and the build, coordinating everything from the carpentry to the final paint coats. We do not just design; we figure out how to put it together on-site. If you are looking to replicate this clean, Scandinavian-inspired look, we can help you figure out the storage layout and material selection that fits your actual budget, not a Pinterest estimate.
