Yoga is not just a practice; it is a legacy. Discover the world’s oldest organized yoga center, where we have preserved and shared the scientific, householder approach to yoga since 1918.

On Guru Purnima, we bow in gratitude to our Gurus who have illuminated countless lives. This is our lineage, from Paramhamsa Madhavadas Ji to myself, a sacred chain of wisdom that continues to guide us.

We pay tribute to the legendary Shri Yogendra Ji, founder of The Yoga Institute. On his 36th death anniversary, we honor his extraordinary contribution of bringing Yoga to the common householder.

On the birth anniversary of Smt. Sitadevi Yogendraji, fondly known as Mother, we celebrate her vision. She was a true pioneer who paved the way for women's empowerment through Yoga.

This is a miniature model of our founder, Shri Yogendra Ji. He was instrumental in the evolution of Yoga and introduced it to the Western world by opening the first Yoga center in New York in 1920.

This model honors Smt. Sitadevi Ji, who we call Mother. She challenged the notion that Yoga was only for men and authored the first book on Yoga for women, supporting our mission to spread Yoga to all.

This is a model of Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra, who we called Dr. Sahab. As President of The Yoga Institute, he continued the legacy with deep wisdom and practical solutions, guiding people with his scholarly brilliance.

This is a model of myself. I am humbled to carry forward this 100-year legacy, sharing the message of peace and balanced living with millions across the globe through our sessions and books.

Did you know the world's first Yoga museum is right here at The Yoga Institute in Mumbai? Inaugurated in 1987, it takes you on a journey through Yoga's ancient roots. You can even take a virtual tour on Google Arts & Culture.

Being felicitated at the 8th DAE National Yoga Conference at BARC. It is always a privilege to interact with audiences and share the profound wisdom of Yoga for a healthy, disease-free life.

About Our Legacy: A Century of Yogic Tradition

Our heritage is a living, breathing chain of wisdom. From Paramhamsa Madhavadas Ji to Shri Yogendra Ji and Smt. Sitadevi Ji, we have maintained an unbroken lineage dedicated to making yoga a daily, practical habit for householders. When you walk our campus, you are not just entering a studio; you are stepping into a century of dedication to authentic health and character building.

Our Story: The Householder Approach

Founded in 1918, The Yoga Institute was born from a simple, radical idea: Yoga is not meant only for ascetics in caves, but for every person living a normal, busy life. Our founder, Shri Yogendra Ji, pioneered the 'Householder Yoga' movement, believing that if you learn to balance your food, habits, and thoughts, you can navigate life's challenges with strength and grace.

A Legacy of Gurus

We honor the Guru-Shishya tradition as the foundation of our work.

  • Shri Yogendra Ji: He took yoga out of the shadows, making it a scientific, public discipline in the early 20th century.
  • Smt. Sitadevi Ji (Mother): She challenged societal norms, authoring the first yoga books for women and making the practice accessible to all.
  • Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra (Dr. Sahab): He brought profound scholarly depth and spiritual humility to our institute, guiding us until 2018.

The Museum of Classical Yoga

If you visit our Santacruz campus, you will find more than classrooms. We house the world's first yoga museum, inaugurated in 1987. It displays personal artifacts from our founders and takes you through the evolution of yogic postures, Kriyas, and lifestyle tools. It is a space to pause, reflect, and understand where the techniques you practice today actually originated.

Continuing the Mission

Today, I lead this mission with the same commitment to simplicity and truth. We do not chase trends or complex acrobatics. We teach the fundamentals: Pranayama for the mind, Asanas for the body, and a Sattvik lifestyle for the spirit. Whether you are seeking a 21-day foundation course or a deep dive into teacher training, you are learning a method tested by time and millions of practitioners.
