About Our Legacy & Recognition
When you walk into our Santacruz campus, you are not just joining a class; you are stepping into a 100-year story. Since Shri Yogendra Ji founded this institute in 1918, we have focused on a scientific, rational approach to yoga that moves far beyond just physical exercise. Our goal is to address your mind, your diet, and your daily habits to help you build true, lasting health.
A Century of Tradition
Our journey began in 1918 when Shri Yogendra Ji established The Yoga Institute, making it the world’s oldest organized yoga center. He was a pioneer in bringing a scientific lens to yoga, insisting on education before practice. This commitment to research and clarity was carried forward by Mother Sitadevi, who broke barriers by writing the first yoga manual for women, and Dr. Jayadeva Yogendra, who further deepened our focus on classical yoga.
The Science of Yoga
We do not view yoga as a quick fix or a performance. Our focus has always been on Yoga as a lifestyle. This dedication to clinical and practical application is why we are frequently consulted by research institutions like the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for our work on disease-free living. When you learn with us, you are learning a system that has been refined through decades of work with students, medical professionals, and scholars.
Our Philosophy Today
Under the leadership of Dr. Hansaji Yogendra, we continue to bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and modern life. We believe in 'Ahar' (food), 'Vihar' (lifestyle), 'Achar' (habits), and 'Vichar' (thoughts). Whether you are looking for teacher training in Goa or a daily wellness routine in Mumbai, you will find that our approach remains the same: gentle, disciplined, and focused on helping you take responsibility for your own health.
We invite you to read through our history and see how our community is continuing the work started over a century ago. Join us in making yoga a natural part of every home.
Hansa Yogendra
We carry forward the vision that started in 1918, believing that yoga is not just about what you do on a mat, but how you live every moment. Our team is here to guide you with patience, treating you as part of our extended family as we work together on your wellness.
