About Backhand Technique
The backhand is often where players tighten up and lose power. In my sessions, we stop relying purely on arm strength and start using proper hip rotation and weight transfer. I don't just feed balls; I will personally step in to correct your grip and ensure you are dropping the racket head early enough to generate that clean spin you see in these drills.
Building a Reliable Backhand
Many students come to me thinking the backhand is 'weaker' than their forehand, but usually, it's just a matter of mechanics. Whether you play with one hand or two, the foundation is the same: preparation and contact point.
At my academy in Sector 75, we use red clay courts. This surface is excellent for learning because it gives you that extra fraction of a second to set up your shot and is much kinder on your knees and joints than hard courts.
How We Fix Your Form
My approach is very hands-on:
- Grip & Stance: We start by checking your Continental or Eastern grip. If your stance is wrong, you cannot generate power. I will adjust your feet so you are balanced before you even swing.
- The Swing Path: We work on the loop and the follow-through. Most beginners rush the shot; we focus on 'racket drop' to ensure you get under the ball for topspin.
- Video Feedback: For 1-on-1 students, I use immediate video analysis. Seeing yourself hit the ball is the fastest way to understand why a slice or topspin shot isn't landing where you want.
Tailored Programs
If you are a beginner, we start with the basics—keeping it simple so you don't overthink it. For advanced players, we focus on tactical placement, cross-court consistency, and when to use a slice to change the pace of a rally.
Consistency is the only secret. You don't need a miracle shot; you need a backhand you can trust under pressure. If you are in Noida and ready to put in the work, come by for a session and let's get your technique sorted.
