Accompanying an artist is a dialogue of rhythm and soul. Whether it is a classical vocal piece or a sitar jugalbandi, my tabla seeks to support the lead melody with grace and precision.

About The Art of Accompaniment: Jugalbandi & Sangat

When I provide 'sangat' (accompaniment) for a vocalist or instrumentalist, my goal isn't to take center stage, but to enhance the lead's expression. You will notice that in my playing, I prioritize the balance—ensuring the tabla bols complement the melody rather than overpowering it. For the best sound, I always ask that we set up two microphones on short stands during the soundcheck so the audience hears every nuance of the performance.
