About Awards & Recognition
Receiving the Bharat Ratna M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship three years in a row at the Shanmukhananda Auditorium is a blessing I do not take lightly. These moments remind me that the tabla is not just an instrument, but a lifelong 'sadhana'. Each recognition acts as a nudge to deepen my riyaaz, ensuring that the Punjab Gharana style remains authentic and powerful every time I sit on stage.
Awards are a validation of the hard work I put into my daily practice, but they are never the end goal. My focus remains on preserving the specific nuances of the Punjab Gharana style, characterized by its powerful yet graceful bols. When I perform at venues like the Shanmukhananda Auditorium, it is not just about the solo recital. It is about presenting the rare compositions taught to me by Ustad Joginder Singh Ji to a contemporary audience that still values classical tradition.
I believe in the mantra, 'In a world of filters, stay original'. Whether I am playing a complex Teentaal or a simple bhajan, my goal is to maintain the purity of the sound. These accolades, such as the fellowship, provide a platform to share this art with more people. If you are looking for a performance that respects classical decorum while engaging a modern audience, I bring that same discipline to every event, be it a private baithak or a large-scale concert. I am available to travel for classical performances, fusion collaborations, and spiritual gatherings where rhythm plays a central role.
