Designing Auditoriums and Cultural Spaces That Inspire
We designed this 550-seater auditorium and its surrounding spaces to be a vibrant cultural hub, balancing high-performance acoustics with intimate, soulful design.
The main lobby and reception counter at the Sri Kumaran School auditorium. We designed this area to be the first point of immersion, with warm lighting, natural wood, and greenery creating a welcoming atmosphere for students and visitors.
A comfortable seating area within the auditorium lobby. This space allows for quiet reflection or conversation, featuring a sculptural pendant light and views of the outdoors, making it a peaceful waiting area.
The VIP room provides a private, sophisticated space for meetings. The design features a large central table, comfortable seating, and a dramatic coffered ceiling, all contributing to a refined and functional lounge design.

About Sri Kumaran School: Spaces for Culture & Community
Beyond the seating capacity, we focused on the acoustics and the subtle design details that make this space work for both performers and the audience. We chose finishes that dampen sound without feeling sterile, pairing imported, ergonomic furniture with warm wood paneling to ensure even long events remain comfortable.
A Space for Culture and Connection
Designing for institutions is not just about floor plans; it is about respecting the legacy of the space while building for the future. For this project, we wanted the auditorium to feel like a destination—a place that commands attention but feels welcoming the moment you step into the lobby.
The Design Breakdown
- The Immersion Lobby: We moved away from traditional waiting areas, treating the lobby as an immersive introduction to the arts. By integrating warm lighting and natural wood, we created a transitional zone that sets the mood before the performance begins.
- Acoustic & AV Precision: The auditorium is wrapped in high-performance acoustic materials. We ensured these technical elements blend into the design, using dark, textured surfaces that dampen echo without cluttering the aesthetic.
- The VIP Lounge: Often overlooked, this space acts as a private sanctuary. We designed it with coffered ceilings and plush, private seating to allow for quiet meetings or a moment of pause before or after a performance.
- Heritage Graphics: Collaboration is the core of our process. We worked with Design by Metamorph to create custom graphics that honor the heritage of the institution, ensuring the space feels rooted in its own story.
Every decision, from the selection of the pendant lighting in the lounge to the flow of the seating, was made to support the people using it. We believe a school auditorium should be a place where students and talent feel empowered to express themselves.
