Ishtaa Restaurant Interior Design in Jayanagar
A calm, soulful transition from the bustling streets of Jayanagar into a warm, earth-toned dining space. We designed Ishtaa to be a retreat for slow meals and good conversation.
The street-facing view of Ishtaa at dusk, where the warm interior light glows through the entrance. This was our first F&B project, and we poured our hearts into creating a landmark in Jayanagar that felt both new and timeless.
A full view of the main dining hall where we integrated existing tree trunks directly into the restaurant's layout. The custom booth seating and suspended light fixtures were designed to complement the natural elements, creating a unique indoor-outdoor restaurant interior.
This seating area features a long, comfortable booth against a textured terracotta brick wall. The combination of warm leather-toned upholstery and natural wood chairs creates a cozy and inviting zone for guests to enjoy their meal.
We created different zones within the large restaurant space. This section uses clean wall paneling and a mix of seating types, including custom cafe seating solutions, to offer a varied dining experience under soft, ambient lighting.
Sunlight filtering through the windows creates beautiful patterns on the patterned floor tiles of this intimate dining alcove. This cozy nook is a perfect example of our focus on creating small, private moments within a larger, bustling space.
Wooden archways and open shelving act as subtle space dividers, creating a sense of discovery as you move through the restaurant. This architectural detail helps define different areas without closing them off, maintaining an open and airy feel.

The beauty of handcrafted details is shown in this terracotta jaali brick screen. It not only adds a decorative, traditional element but also allows for natural ventilation and playful light, connecting the interior with the outdoors.

About Ishtaa: A Modern Ode to Tradition
The true soul of this space came from working with what was already there, specifically the existing trees. Instead of clearing them, we made them the anchor of the dining hall, building our seating zones around them so guests feel tucked away in a quiet corner while still being part of the restaurant's energy. If you are looking at your own floor plan, consider how your primary constraints can actually become your most unique design features.
Finding the Rūh of the Space
Designing Ishtaa was about far more than just picking furniture. It was a labour of love that involved late-night brainstorming sessions, countless cups of chai, and plenty of 3am site visits to get the lighting levels exactly right. Our goal was to create a vegetarian restaurant in Jayanagar that felt rooted in tradition but still fresh enough for a modern crowd.
Materiality and Flow
We wanted the space to breathe. To achieve this, we relied on an earthy palette: terracotta brick, raw wood, and natural cane. The terracotta jaali screens don't just add a beautiful texture, they also solve a practical problem by allowing natural ventilation while softening the incoming sunlight.
Zoning for Atmosphere
One of the biggest challenges in hospitality design is managing the noise and intimacy levels of a large hall. We used open shelving and custom cane partitions to break up the vast floor plan. These elements act as visual barriers that create pockets of privacy without blocking the flow of light or movement. Whether a guest is sitting at a booth or in a cozy alcove, the space feels balanced and comfortable.
The Final Touch
We poured our hearts into the lighting as well. Those custom spherical fixtures were designed to cast a warm, diffused glow that makes the wood textures pop after dark. It is this combination of architecture and mood-setting that earned us the IIID BRC Antarya Regional Award, but for us, the real win is seeing guests linger over their meals because they simply love the vibe of the room.
