Tropical and Biophilic Interior Design
Blurring the lines between indoors and out, we craft restorative sanctuaries inspired by tropical modernism by layering natural textures, lush greenery, and earthy palettes to create homes that breathe.
The entryway of our 'Getaway to Galle' project sets a tropical tone with its arched wooden door, checkerboard floor, and traditional lanterns. The space immediately transports you to a breezy, coastal villa.
A custom wooden swing with caned details hangs in a sunlit corridor, overlooking the garden. The black and white flooring and paneled walls create a classic colonial feel, perfect for a tropical home.

The living area is a tribute to tropical modernism, featuring cane armchairs, a simple wooden coffee table, and large, leaf-shaped wall sculptures. The design is earthy, textural, and deeply calming.

Custom wardrobes made of wood and cane add warmth and texture to the bedroom. The design continues the home's theme of using natural, handcrafted materials to create a cohesive and authentic feel.
This bedroom uses a monochrome palette with pops of natural texture from the caned wardrobe and wooden furniture. A traditional standing mirror adds a touch of vintage charm to the space.
The powder room features a vanity with caned cabinet doors and a dramatic black fish-scale tile backsplash. The gold-framed mirror and woven pendant light add layers of texture and warmth.
About Tropical & Biophilic Sanctuaries
True biophilic design goes beyond just adding potted plants to a room. In our projects, like the 'Getaway to Galle' residence, we focus on the tactile essence, using hand-woven cane, natural bamboo, and varied textures like wool and linen to create a space that feels like a permanent vacation. We prioritize material authenticity so that every surface you touch adds to the narrative of a tranquil, restorative sanctuary.
We approach tropical modernism as a conversation between the home and its environment. It is less about a specific look and more about the atmosphere, a visual lullaby that calms the senses. When we design these sanctuaries, our process begins with understanding the light and ventilation of your site to ensure the home feels open and airy, rather than just aesthetically tropical.
From the checkerboard patterns and arched woodwork seen in our 'Getaway to Galle' project to the strategic use of botanical tiles and indoor pergolas, we aim to blur the boundaries between the indoors and your garden. We often integrate our House of Goya custom-made furniture to ensure the scale and comfort are perfectly tailored to the room. This includes custom wardrobes with cane shutters that allow for airflow, or live-edge dining tables that anchor a patio space for al fresco entertaining.
Our process is deeply collaborative. We source hard finishes like black slate or Kota stone and pair them with softer elements like hand-knotted rugs and linen drapes. This contrast, hard versus soft or cool stone versus warm timber, is what gives these spaces their depth. We do not just decorate with greenery, we design the space to house it, ensuring that your home feels like an escape that you never have to leave.
