Don’t expect coffee runs here. Our internships are strictly about site visits, documentation, and the honest reality of heritage conservation work.

A look back at life as an intern in our studio. The journey involves everything from site adventures and hands-on work to close mentorship and team socials, often building friendships that last long after the internship ends.

Internship diaries. An intern wearing a hard hat discusses plans amidst the rubble of a restoration site. This is the reality of our site adventures, where learning happens on the ground, dealing with the real challenges of retrofitting old structures.

Two interns document a historic stepwell, a perfect example of how our programs merge design thinking with cultural research. We believe that bringing together people from diverse fields, like social design and architecture, leads to true co-creation.

Our summer internship announcement highlights the core activities: research, documentation, industry interface, and working directly with materials. This image captures students on a site visit, fully engaged in the architectural context of a heritage building.

The process of architectural education involves translating ideas into visual form. This flat lay shows a collection of student work, including architectural sketches, urban design maps, and visual communication storyboards from one of our programs.

A group of interns gathered for an introductory session. Our internship program is structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience, covering everything from heritage conservation theory to practical application over a two month period.

Studio Voices. A group photo of our 2024 interns, a team of bright young minds from various architectural schools. Our studio thrives on the energy and fresh perspectives that our interns bring each year.

A testimonial from an Urban Design Intern who found our program offered a profound new perspective on understanding the urban context. It is gratifying to know our lectures and guidance inspire future architects.

This testimonial from a 2024 intern from Jamia Millia Islamia highlights how our program helps students explore the complexities of conservation. Even a short summer internship can be a deeply enriching learning experience.

"Significantly enhanced my understanding of conservation within urban contexts." Feedback like this from our interns validates our approach to mentorship and sharing expertise in a meaningful way.

About Our Internship: Real Projects, Real Impact

When you join us, you are not a spectator. You will be on-site documenting heritage structures, handling material research, and contributing to actual adaptive reuse projects. We treat our interns like junior team members, meaning you get the full responsibility of real architectural work, from initial site assessment to final design mapping.

Architecture is about problem-solving, not just drawing plans. At ATA, we believe that the only way to learn heritage conservation is by doing it. Our internship program is an immersive dive into the professional life of a conservation architect. You will be dealing with rising damp, structural stress, and material identification alongside seasoned professionals.

We move away from rigid office-bound tasks. Instead, we emphasize Jugaad, the clever, local resourcefulness that defines Indian adaptive reuse. Whether it is documenting a historic stepwell or mapping an urban precinct, you will be out in the field.

We are multidisciplinary. We welcome social designers, urban planners, and architects alike because that is how real-world projects actually work. We expect you to bring your own voice to the table. Our mentorship is a two-way street; we share our knowledge, and in return, we expect your sincerity, curiosity, and an application written by you, not an AI.

If you are looking to understand the intersection of community, climate, and conservation, this is where you start.
