At STaND, we treat materials as the starting point of every design conversation. From the raw, tactile grit of hand-chiseled stone to the soft rhythm of fluted wood, these textures define how a space feels, not just how it looks.

Welcome to 'Texture Thursdays,' our series exploring materials we love. This fluted wood panel is a timeless texture that adds rhythm and warmth to any surface, and we enjoy using it in our projects.

For another 'Texture Thursday,' we're showcasing this hand-chiseled stone. The raw, irregular grooves create a beautiful tactile surface that plays with light and shadow.

This week's texture is a stippled glass. It offers privacy while still allowing light to filter through, making it a great choice for partitions or windows where you want to create a soft, diffused glow.

A close-up of a leathered finish on a natural stone. This texture is created by brushing the surface, resulting in a soft, matte feel that is both durable and beautiful to the touch.

A look at different marble samples. We love exploring the unique veins and tones of each type of marble, from classic white Carrara to dramatic, richly colored varieties.

The textures of Ladakh, captured during a recent trip. The raw, layered construction of this mud and stone building is a powerful example of architecture rooted in its landscape and local materials.

The simple yet effective wood joinery on this outdoor decking in Ladakh is a lesson in climate-responsive design. Travel always heightens our senses and recharges our creative batteries.

About The Art of Materiality: Textures, Tones & Moods

When we talk about texture, we are not just looking for aesthetic appeal; we are evaluating how a material ages in a Mumbai climate. Whether we are specifying porous lime plaster that requires gentle upkeep or selecting natural Kota stone for your flooring, our priority is ensuring these elements perform well in your daily life while maintaining their distinct character.
