At STaND, we treat materials as the starting point of every design conversation. From the raw, tactile grit of hand-chiseled stone to the soft rhythm of fluted wood, these textures define how a space feels, not just how it looks.

Welcome to 'Texture Thursdays,' our series exploring materials we love. This fluted wood panel is a timeless texture that adds rhythm and warmth to any surface, and we enjoy using it in our projects.

For another 'Texture Thursday,' we're showcasing this hand-chiseled stone. The raw, irregular grooves create a beautiful tactile surface that plays with light and shadow.

This week's texture is a stippled glass. It offers privacy while still allowing light to filter through, making it a great choice for partitions or windows where you want to create a soft, diffused glow.

We are Sid and Nik, and for us, a room is only as good as the materials that fill it. We spend our weekends hunting for the perfect vein in a slab of marble or experimenting with wood joinery because we believe these small details are what make a house feel like a home.

The play of light and shadow is a key element in our designs. In Amber House, the afternoon sun streams through the vertical wooden railings, casting graphic patterns on the walls and floor, transforming the architectural structure into a living piece of art.9
In Cocoon House, we designed the staircase to be more than just a functional element. The combination of white marble, a light wood handrail, and custom brass and wood balusters creates a sculptural feature, while a simple niche with a vase of flowers adds a moment of beauty.
Craftsmanship is at the heart of our work. This close-up from the Grid Pavilion restaurant shows the intricate joinery of the custom wooden ceiling grid, a detail that adds structural beauty and a sense of order to the dining space.

A glimpse into the kitchen of 'A Home Set in Stone', where the cool grey of the in-situ terrazzo floor meets the warm teak of the cabinetry. The frosted glass and handmade tiles add another layer of texture.11
This bathroom in the 'House of Skye' features pastel green terrazzo walls and a custom-cast slate grey terrazzo sink. The seamless finish and the meeting of two different terrazzo colors in one space is a detail I particularly love.
