About Custom Furniture & Artisanal Decor
My Approach: Art Meets Interiors
I’m Ritu Kaul, and Walnut is my way of bringing together architecture, art, and the crafts I grew up with. Every piece I design is a one-off - I don’t repeat patterns. My goal is to make furniture and decor that feels personal, mixing Indian heritage with a modern vibe.
How Each Piece Comes Alive
- I start with hand sketches, then get into the nitty-gritty - thickness, edges, proportions, सब कुछ पेपर पे perfect करते हैं (everything is perfected on paper).
- My team of artisans in our own factory takes over from there. Their skill and heart matter more than any machine.
Heritage & Craftsmanship
- Hand-carved wooden furniture is our signature. You’ll see floral carving on puja units, sculpted sofa legs, and even solid wood sculptures that take months.
- Mother of Pearl inlay decor and brass work show up on tabletops, cabinets, and wall panels.
- We also do hand-painting, Kashmiri Khatambandh, and finishes like crackle paint for a unique look.
Beyond Furniture: Decor That Speaks
- I design sculptural accents, wall panels, handcrafted lighting, and textiles. These details help your space feel like you.
Conscious Crafting
- We use reclaimed wood furniture and upcycle leftover materials. It’s about making luxury responsible.
I love seeing clients light up when their space finally feels like home. That’s what keeps me going.

My Story
I’m Ritu, the face behind Walnut. Architect, yes, but really I just love telling stories with spaces and furniture. Walnut is a piece of Kashmir, my home, carried into every project. Fifteen years, lots of learning, some tough, some with great people. Family is always first, work can wait. I’m crazy about art and Indian crafts - Dhokra, Bidri, you name it. I bring these stories into homes, to make them feel warm, elegant, full of life.
