Meet Our Musical Team
We believe the best music education starts with teachers who truly love the craft. Meet the Solfege Academy team in Bandra and discover the childhood memories and musical roots that shape how we guide our students.
This is my story. My connection with music began with my father's eclectic vinyl collection, which sparked a curiosity that grew into a lifelong relationship with the piano. That emotional connection I felt as a child is still just as strong today.
Here is the story of our teacher, Rhea. Her earliest memories are of sitting at the piano with her dad, who would take her little hand and press the keys. Watching him play for the family showed her the joy music can bring to everyone.
For our teacher Havilah, music truly runs in the family. Her grandfather, father, and uncle are all self-taught musicians. Her journey started as a baby in her pram, and her first real exposure to harmonies was in the church choir at age five.
This is the story of our teacher, Fay. Her musical journey started at age five with her grandpa as her mentor. Her dad, a drummer, taught her the meaning of beat and rhythm, building a foundation of passion that has become an integral part of her life.
About Our Teachers' Musical Journeys
When you walk into our Bandra studio, you are not just meeting an instructor. You are meeting someone who remembers exactly what it felt like to press that first piano key, whether it was on a family upright or during a childhood choir practice. We believe this shared history of learning makes our teaching more patient, relatable, and human.
Our teaching philosophy at Solfege Academy is built on the belief that music is an emotional language, not just a technical skill. This is why our team doesn't just teach theory; we share the experiences that made us musicians.
Take our founder, Leena Mistry, for example. Her passion for the piano started with her father's eclectic vinyl collection, turning a curiosity into a lifelong relationship with the instrument. Similarly, teacher Rhea Paula D'Souza remembers the specific Hamilton upright piano in her childhood home in Bandra, where her father guided her hands to find the melody. These memories are the foundation of our classes.
We bring this same personal approach to our students. Havilah D'Sa, who grew up in a family of musicians and started her journey in a church choir at age five, understands the value of a solid, rhythmic foundation. Meanwhile, Fay Gonsalves, guided by her grandfather and a drummer father, knows how vital it is to feel the beat.
Whether you are looking for private piano lessons, early childhood music education, or a collaborative workshop, you will find that our instructors are here to support your personal musical growth. We invite you to drop by our studio in Bandra West, see the space, and chat with us about your goals. We would love to help you or your child find that same joy in music that we found as kids.
