Handmade Family Portrait Sketches

When bringing together family members from different photos, I do not just sketch—I re-compose. I carefully adjust lighting, height, and alignment so the final portrait looks natural, even if I am working from five separate, old, or blurry snapshots.

Creating a family heirloom is about more than drawing faces. It is about freezing a moment you never want to let go. When you send me your photos, I spend time planning the layout before I ever touch the paper. Whether you have one clear group photo or need me to merge individuals from separate images, I handle the restoration and composition first.

I use high-quality 250+ GSM paper for these large A2-sized works because the paper needs to hold the heavy charcoal layers without buckling. Every portrait gets a double coat of professional fixative spray, so your heirloom does not smudge over the years.

My process:

• Photo Review: Send me your source photos. I will tell you what is possible.
• Layout Planning: I arrange the composition so height differences and lighting look natural.
• The Drawing: I work with a mix of Graphite and Charcoal to get deep blacks and soft skin tones.
• Quality Check: The final piece is rolled in a wide-diameter PVC pipe to ensure it arrives at your door without a single crease.

Since these are large, complex pieces, they take 10 to 15 days of dedicated work. I do not rush. This is about capturing the pride in a parent's eyes or the bond between generations. Jai Shree Ram!
