Witness how children find focus and joy in their daily work. Through self-directed learning and practical life activities, our students build the independence that defines a true Montessori education.

The day begins with choosing a workspace. A child carefully unrolls his mat, an important Montessori exercise that defines his personal area and teaches respect for his own work and the work of others.

Independence in action. This child is selecting a work mat from the low, accessible shelves, demonstrating his ability to make choices and initiate his own learning activities within our prepared environment.

Here you can see the 'buzz' of a productive Montessori classroom. Children are engaged in various activities, some individually and some in small groups, all learning at their own pace in a calm, focused atmosphere.

This video is a wonderful throwback to a typical day, filled with focused work and joyful interaction. It shows children deeply engaged with various Montessori materials, from geometry puzzles to sensorial exercises, guided by their own interests.

After completing a food preparation activity, this child sits down to enjoy the snack he prepared himself. This completes the work cycle, providing a sense of accomplishment and connecting his effort to a tangible result.

Responsibility is woven into every part of our day. After finishing his snack, this child carefully carries his tray to the cleaning area, demonstrating care for the materials and the classroom community.

Learning to clean up is as important as the activity itself. This child is using a child-sized dustpan and brush to sweep up, developing coordination and taking ownership of keeping our shared space tidy.

The day ends as it began, with independence. This young student puts on his own shoes, a simple act that represents the confidence and self-reliance we nurture through practical life skills every day.

A quiet moment for a snack. Children learn to listen to their bodies and manage their own needs, like deciding when they are hungry and preparing a small snack for themselves.

Taking care of our environment extends to every corner of the school. Here, a child practices a cleaning exercise, developing motor skills and a sense of pride in maintaining a beautiful space.

About A Day at Siksha: The Self-Directed Classroom

You will notice that our classroom is rarely silent but never chaotic. Instead, there is a quiet, rhythmic buzz of productivity as children choose their own work mats, master specific Montessori materials, and naturally clean up afterward. It is this daily rhythm—where a child pours their own water or rolls up their rug—that builds the concentration and confidence you see in every photo.
