About Urban & Public Realm Design
Why We Design for Urban Life
Urban spaces are much more than buildings and roads. For us, they're where stories unfold and daily life happens. We take time to really listen - to the people, to the land, and to what makes each place unique. Our aim is to shape spaces that feel like they truly belong there.
Projects That Speak
- In Ahmedabad, we reimagined the lari (street cart) with the 'Madam Narangi' project. What started as a simple cart turned into a way for women vendors to earn with dignity. The cart is mobile, folds up, and when you bring a few together, suddenly you've got a community public square design for markets or local events. Every bit is functional - retractable displays, a tough cover for protection, and even lights powered by movement. Plus, when it's done being a cart, it can be upcycled into a kitchen or a desk. That's upcyclable urban furniture in action.
- In Pollachi, we had to design for elephants, not just people. So, the Elephant Pavilion sits low, follows the land’s shape, and leaves every tree standing. Built from local earth and timber, it lets you feel the forest - not just look at it. It’s a quiet spot for officials and visitors, blending into the elephant corridor.
How We Work
We don’t just sit at computers – we build physical models, experiment, and get our hands dirty. This hands-on urban design process helps us see what works at human scale. We’re always thinking about how to use resources wisely, so the result is both practical and beautiful.
What’s Next
We’re now designing our first community temple. It’s a big responsibility - and a chance to shape a space for culture and togetherness.

My Story
We’re Surbhi and Deepanshu, and SIAN Architects is just us chasing ideas, mixing old-school tricks with new ones. A building, for us, isn’t only walls - it’s a chat between land, stone, and the people inside. Sometimes we’re playing with Jaisalmer stone and jaggery, sometimes printing Ranthambore party scenes on wood. Magazines and events? Cool, but we’re happiest when a garden grows in a home we helped shape. That’s the real story.
My Work
What We Do - We design context-sensitive architecture, heritage home renovation, wildlife retreats, hospitality interiors, and bespoke landscape design.
We Start With the Land - Every project begins with listening to the site, letting the surroundings guide the design. Architecture follows nature’s rhythm.
Materials That Hold Memory - We use everything from thatch and stone to CNC panels, picking materials that feel personal and carry stories.
Homes for Real Living - We love clients who want homes full of laughter, layered stories, and spaces that feel truly lived-in.
