Our Philosophy in Action
Yoga is a way of life that extends far beyond the mat. Here, we share how ancient principles like Ahimsa (non-violence) and oneness guide our daily practice and our connection with the world around us.
The yogic path teaches us that we belong to the earth and must share it with all living beings. This connection to nature and the principle of 'Ahimsa' (non-violence) are central to my life and my teaching.
Practicing compassion for all beings is a fundamental aspect of yoga. This belief in our shared existence informs my approach to teaching, fostering an environment of kindness, respect, and interconnectedness in every session I lead.
About Our Philosophy in Action
You might notice our approach feels a little different from a standard gym class, and that is by design. We view the principle of Ahimsa, or non-violence, as a practice that extends far beyond the studio walls. Whether we are hosting a retreat in Goa or leading a corporate workshop in Mumbai, we encourage students to see their practice as a way to cultivate kindness toward themselves and every living creature they encounter, rather than just focusing on physical perfection.
The Foundation of Our Practice
Yoga originates from the Sanskrit root 'yuj', which signifies union. For us, this is not just about connecting the body and mind. It reflects the harmony of the individual self with the entire cosmos. In our classes, we explore how ancient yogic texts offer practical tools for modern living. We believe that if you do pranayama in a yukta (correct) manner, it removes disease, but ayukta (improper) practice can manifest it. This is why we focus heavily on the intent and the philosophy behind every movement.
Living by Ahimsa and Aparigraha
Beyond the mat, we emphasize principles that nurture a simpler, more sustainable life:
- Ahimsa (Non-violence): This is not limited to refraining from physical harm. It calls for compassion toward all living beings and a gentle approach to the Earth itself. We encourage our 'yogatribe' to be mindful of their consumption, waste, and daily habits.
- Aparigraha (Non-possessiveness): In a fast-paced city like Mumbai, it is easy to get caught up in the cycle of wanting more. We teach students to find contentment with what they have, reducing the mental clutter that keeps them from finding their true self.
Why This Matters
Our philosophy is to help you be a yogi from the mind, not only from the body. By integrating these values, yoga becomes a tool to look inwards and ask the fundamental question: 'Who am I?'. Whether you join us for a Teacher Training program, a corporate session, or a nature-inspired retreat, our goal remains the same: to foster a community of seekers who are dedicated to holistic well-being and genuine connection.
