Architecture is more than structures. It is about how we live. I design spaces that blur the line between indoors and outdoors, using natural materials to create homes and learning environments that breathe.

This is the heart of my work: creating joyful, sustainable spaces where communities can thrive. Here at the Foothill Learning Centre, an amphitheater built from stone and colorful recycled tires becomes a natural stage for play and connection.

I believe learning spaces should be inspiring. By framing the view through a large circular arch, this classroom at the Foothill Learning Centre feels boundless, connecting the indoor learning environment with the architectural beauty of the wider space.

My designs work with the land, not against it. This aerial view of the Foothill Learning Centre shows how the building's flowing forms are nestled among existing trees, creating a campus that feels like a natural extension of the landscape.

The Rohtak Dome showcases the timeless beauty of earthen architecture. This intricate spiral of bricks is not just a roof; it's a testament to the elegance and strength that can be achieved with handcrafted, natural materials.

A home should feel spacious and serene, regardless of its size. In this Bangalore residence, an indoor swing, a large circular window, and exposed brick walls come together to create a tranquil corner that is open, airy, and deeply connected to traditional comforts.

I use architecture to paint with light. A terracotta jaali screen acts as a porous ceiling, casting intricate patterns of light and shadow that shift throughout the day, turning a simple room into a dynamic and living space.

True architecture is born from patience and skill. This moment, capturing the final touches on the Rohtak Dome, reflects the precision and passion that goes into every handcrafted structure I help create.

The exterior of a building should tell a story of its materials. At the Foothill Learning Centre, the layered patterns of a rammed earth wall stand beside the rhythmic texture of hollow clay blocks, showcasing a design rooted in nature.

When I approach a new site, my first question is how the light moves through it. You will notice in these projects that I prioritize passive cooling and natural ventilation over heavy mechanical systems. By using honest materials like rammed earth and hollow clay blocks, we create spaces that stay comfortable throughout the year. It is a slower, more deliberate way to build, but it results in an environment that feels alive.

Many people ask why I prefer these traditional materials and methods in modern projects. The answer is simple. A building should not fight the local climate. It should exist in harmony with it.

In my work at the Foothill Learning Centre in Salem, for example, the goal was to create a place that sparks curiosity. We used rammed earth for the walls and designed the layout to maximize cross-ventilation, eliminating the need for air conditioning during the day. The large circular arches and recycled tire seating serve a purpose beyond aesthetics. They invite children to play and interact with the space, making the architecture a partner in the learning process.

Similarly, with the Rohtak Dome, we relied on handcrafted brickwork to demonstrate that structural beauty can be achieved without relying on concrete. This is the core of my practice. Whether I am designing a home in Bengaluru or a community center, the principles remain the same. We focus on:

  • Passive Cooling: Using thermal mass to keep interiors cool.
  • Light and Shadow: Employing jaalis and skylights to naturally illuminate spaces.
  • Material Honesty: Leaving surfaces unfinished to show their true texture and strength.

If you are planning a project, consider the footprint you want to leave behind. Sustainable architecture is not a trend. It is a conscious choice to live with nature, ensuring that the spaces we inhabit are as healthy for us as they are for the earth.

I have spent over three decades understanding how natural materials like stone and mud can transform a structure into a living space. My work is not about following trends. It is about bringing back the verandahs and courtyards that allow us to live under the open sky.
