Urban & Rural Encounters: Raw Stories Captured
Life happens in the moments you don't plan for. I wander through city streets and village lanes with my camera, waiting for the scenes that most people walk past to reveal themselves.
A stray cat is captured mid-air as it pounces on its prey against a vibrant red shutter. This is a perfect example of the raw, unscripted drama of urban wildlife photography.
A cat playfully tosses a mouse in the air, a moment of instinct frozen in time. The bright red background makes the action pop, turning a simple street scene into a dynamic story.
One cat proudly presents its catch to another, a fascinating social interaction between two street animals. This shot tells a story of hierarchy and survival in the urban jungle.
Silhouetted against a cloudy sky, rows of pigeons sit on electrical wires like notes on a musical staff. This is a simple, graphic composition I found looking up on a Mumbai street.
A single pigeon breaks away from the flock, its wings spread wide against the blue sky. This shot captures a moment of freedom and individuality within the larger group.
A pile of stray puppies huddles together for warmth on the ground. This top-down photograph creates an intimate and endearing portrait of new life in a rural setting.
A traveler pulls a suitcase past the Gateway of India at sunrise, silhouetted against the golden light. This image focuses on a personal journey, offering a unique take on a famous landmark.
A pigeon takes flight past the sharp corner of a building, its form contrasting with the soft white cloud behind it. This is a minimalist composition that plays with geometry and nature.
A massive flock of birds and a jet streak across the evening sky, creating two distinct paths. This photograph captures a chance encounter between nature and technology.
The cat holds its prey, its tail high, showing a moment of pride and dominance. This image is part of the "Kitty Party" series documenting a hunt on the streets.
About Urban & Rural Encounters
I don't stage these. Whether it's the 'Kitty Party' series capturing a Mumbai street cat mid-pounce or birds tracing lines against the sky, I’m waiting for the rhythm of the city. I carry my camera everywhere, from Dharavi to the coast, because the best stories don't happen on a schedule—they happen when you aren't looking.
My approach to documentary photography is simple: if you look long enough, the world starts to show you its secrets. This cluster is a collection of those chance encounters. It includes the gritty, high-energy drama of urban wildlife in Mumbai, where a shutter becomes the backdrop for a hunt, alongside the quiet, geometric beauty of pigeons on a wire or puppies huddling in a rural village.
My Process
I don't rely on heavy studio setups for this work. Most of these shots are captured using whatever I have in my hand, whether that’s my Nikon or just my phone. The gear isn't the point; the point is the angle and the timing. When I'm shooting, I'm looking for high-contrast color grading or dramatic monochrome to pull the emotion out of the frame.
What I Capture
- Street Life: From the chaotic energy of Mumbai markets to the resilience found in Dharavi, I document daily life without sugar-coating it.
- Rural Moments: My work in places like the villages of Maharashtra focuses on natural, uninhibited human and animal interactions.
- Travel Documentation: I treat travel not as a checklist of sights, but as an opportunity to find the small, honest details—an old door, a sunrise at the Gateway of India, or a chance interaction on a quiet road.
If you need someone to document your project, brand campaign, or travel journey, my approach is built on being invisible. I prefer to shadow the action rather than direct it, ensuring the final result feels authentic and true to the moment.
Sanket Khuntale
I’m Sanket. I don't just take photos; I hunt for the story in the chaos. If you need someone to document your brand, your travel, or the raw pulse of the city, I’m the guy who’ll get it.
