About Monsoon in the Countryside
When I shoot in the monsoon, I don't use artificial lights or complex setups. I rely entirely on the weather. If it is pouring, we find moody, dark shots in the village lanes; if the clouds break, we hunt for the light hitting the green fields. It means we have to stay mobile and keep gear minimal, but the results feel authentic to the season.
Shooting the monsoon isn't just about capturing rain; it's about the mood of the countryside when the sky turns heavy. Whether I'm wandering through the hills of the Sahyadri range or observing daily life in a village, I look for the details that define the season. It might be the way light hits a jowar field after a passing shower or the silhouette of a herdsman on a misty road.
My Approach
I don't believe in heavy editing to force a look. The drama is already in the landscape. By focusing on textures like wet soil, deep green crops, and the architecture of rural life, I aim for images that feel grounded and honest.
Practical Details for Your Shoot
Monsoon shoots are unpredictable by nature. We have to be flexible with the weather. I focus on an immersive, documentary-style approach rather than trying to manufacture perfect weather conditions. We will spend time walking and observing, letting the story unfold as the weather changes.
