Cinematic Street Photography in Mumbai
I see Mumbai as a living, breathing diary, and my camera is just here to read the pages. I don't look for perfection; I look for the pulse of the streets, the motion blur of the traffic, and the quiet stories hidden in the chaos.
Titled "Street Stories from Mumbai," this image of two fishermen in a small boat in front of the Gateway of India serves as a perfect introduction. It encapsulates the blend of daily life and iconic backdrops that defines the city.
An overhead shot using motion blur to capture a cyclist paused at a crosswalk as a taxi speeds by. This image is a visual metaphor for the brief moments of stillness found within the city's constant motion.
A wide, high-angle view of the area around the BMC building. This clip, titled "everyday MUMBAI," captures the grand scale of the city's architecture and the constant flow of traffic and people on its streets.
A vintage blue car driving down a street in South Mumbai. This shot evokes a sense of nostalgia and timelessness, a piece of the city's past still moving through its present.
An aerial view of two women in burqas crossing the street, with a taxi blurring past. The panning motion and unique perspective create a dynamic and artistic street photograph.
A time-lapse or hyper-lapse of the bustling traffic in front of the BMC building at dusk. The moving lights of the cars create streaks of red and white, painting a picture of the city's vibrant energy.
A compilation video titled "The Art of Noticing." It's a collection of cinematic shots from around Mumbai, emphasizing the philosophy of finding beauty and stories in the small, often overlooked details of the city.
A montage of "everyday MUMBAI" scenes, including a close-up of a clock tower and a view of a train station at dusk. It captures the architectural details and the transitional moments of the day.
This "everyday MUMBAI" clip features seagulls flying against a clear sky and a beautiful sunset over the city skyline. It showcases the natural beauty that coexists with the urban landscape.
A man looks out of a moving local train, and a woman walks in front of a grand old building. These two scenes capture the themes of travel and daily life against the city's architectural heritage.
About Street Stories of Mumbai
When we head out for a street session, we don’t rely on artificial studio setups or heavy flash gear. We work entirely with natural light and the city’s existing environment, which means we move through locations like Horniman Circle or the bustling crossings near the BMC building to find textures, shadows, and motion. Expect a shoot that feels like a conversation with the city, where we capture genuine, unposed movement rather than forced smiles.
My photography is about finding the cinematic in the mundane. I don't believe in stiff, static posing. Whether it's a candid street shoot or a lifestyle session, my approach is to treat the urban landscape as our studio. We hunt for the golden hour light or the moody blue hour, using the iconic elements of Bombay—the kaali-peeli taxis, the local train rush, and the architectural history of the city—to frame your narrative.
The #BeAmateur Philosophy
I intentionally limit my gear to keep the process fluid. By staying mobile, we can chase the light, react to the flow of the crowd, and find angles that others might miss. My style leans into motion blur and dramatic contrast, giving you images that look like stills from a film rather than a standard photo session.
Where We Shoot
I focus on areas that capture the true spirit of Mumbai. We might roam the heritage lanes of South Bombay for that timeless feel, or head to the coast to catch the sea breeze and the fishermen at work. If you have a specific part of the city that means something to you, I’m always down to explore it and weave its character into your portraits.
Practical Details
Every session is about comfort and honesty. You don't need to be a model. I guide you on how to move through the space so the final images feel authentic. If you are looking for cinematic storytelling that captures the grit and grace of this city, we should chat.
Shivam
I’m Shivam. I call myself an amateur because I’m always learning and always chasing the magic in the everyday. I don't do studios or staged backdrops; I am here to capture the raw, cinematic reality of Mumbai as it unfolds around us.
