A focused moment of riyaz with our student Vaibhav Maheshwari as he performs a Gat in Raag Yaman on the sitar. We believe that understanding the purpose behind each exercise is fundamental to progress, and Vaibhav's dedicated practice in the Maihar Gharana style exemplifies this principle.

Our Gurus, Shri Madhusudan Rajam on sarod and Shri Ashwin MP on tabla, performing at a private musical evening. As ambassadors of Hindustani shastriya sangeet, we are honored to share the divine art form with appreciative audiences.
About String Instrument Sadhana (Sitar & Sarod)
Mastery of the Sitar or Sarod requires more than just finger dexterity. It demands an understanding of the raga's soul and the patience to refine each stroke. In our Koramangala studio, we emphasize the correct mizrab technique and posture from day one, ensuring that every student develops a clear, resonant tone before advancing to complex gats.
Our instruction is deeply rooted in the Maihar Gharana, a tradition that prioritizes technical clarity and emotional expression. We do not believe in crash courses; rather, we foster a long-term mentorship where the student learns the nuances of taaleem, from foundational paltas to the intricacies of aalap, jod, and jhala.
Students join small-group batches—typically 3 to 6 learners—which allows for personalized attention while fostering a collective learning environment. Beginners focus on posture, pitch perfection, and the basic bols, while advanced students progress toward layakari and complex rhythm improvisation.
Performance is an integral part of our curriculum. We host regular baithaks (informal concerts) where students gain the confidence to present their work with live tabla sangat. This practice, combined with consistent riyaz, is what truly brings the instrument to life. Whether you are an adult seeking a meditative musical outlet or a parent introducing a child to Hindustani classical music, our door is open to those who approach this art with discipline and surrender.
