Our Baithak Series (Student Performances)
Performance is the natural outcome of dedicated riyaz. Our monthly baithaks offer a nurturing space where students of all ages step onto the stage to share their musical journey with live accompaniment.
We present our student Anushri Patnaik performing a devotional Meera bhajan during one of our baithak sessions. These intimate concerts provide students with invaluable experience performing with live tabla and harmonium sangat, a crucial step in their musical development.
Music is a bridge that connects generations. Here, you see our youngest students and our senior learners sharing the stage at a recent concert. At Sangeet Sadhana, we welcome anyone with a genuine love for music, creating a space where all ages can learn and grow together.
A candid moment of riyaz before a performance, where our tabla Guru Shri Ashwiniji guides a senior vocal student through an atidhrut laya. This fine-tuning is where the magic happens, preparing our students for the stage.
Our Gurus, Shri Madhusudan Rajam on sarod and Shri Ashwin MP on tabla, performing at a private musical evening. As ambassadors of Hindustani shastriya sangeet, we are honored to share the divine art form with appreciative audiences.
About Our Baithak Series (Student Performances)
The transition from the solitary hours of riyaz to the concert stage is a pivotal moment in any student’s musical journey. During our monthly baithaks, we ensure this experience is grounded in authenticity by providing live tabla and harmonium sangat. Performing in these intimate, supportive concerts helps students move beyond the mechanics of notation to truly embody the rasa of their chosen raag, allowing them to overcome performance anxiety in a setting that celebrates learning over applause.
In the tradition of Hindustani shastriya sangeet, music is a sadhana that requires both solitary practice and public expression. Our baithaks are not merely recitals, but extensions of our classroom learning. By performing in front of a live, appreciative audience with tabla accompaniment, students learn to navigate the complexities of taal and laya in a real-world setting.
Why Performance Matters in Music Education
- Understanding Accompaniment: Playing solo is different from performing with a percussionist. Our baithaks teach students the art of 'sangat', where the musician and the tabla player engage in a rhythmic dialogue.
- Building Confidence: The stage acts as a mirror, revealing areas of riyaz that need more attention. It helps shed inhibitions, allowing the raga to emerge more organically.
- Community Learning: We believe music is a bridge between generations. When a senior student performs alongside a younger learner, it fosters a shared sense of discipline and mutual respect within our school in Koramangala.
Whether you are learning vocal music, Sitar, Sarod, or Bansuri, these sessions provide the necessary exposure to understand the nuances of bandish and improvisation. We invite students to step forward, present their hard work, and contribute to the continuity of our musical heritage.
