Parenting Coaching to Move from Lecturing to Listening
Parenting is rarely about teaching the child, and almost always about unlearning our own patterns. I work with parents who want to shift from lecturing to genuinely listening, creating space for everyone at home to be heard.
I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful and committed group of parents as part of my 'Unearth' program. It is so heartening to see their willingness to learn and unlearn for their children's growth. The journey always leads them to discover that to raise a child, we must first raise ourselves.
How do you raise creative children? By raising yourself. In this parent workshop, we discussed moving beyond a narrow view of creativity and cultivating playfulness. The fact that these parents are willing to change is a sign that change is already happening in their families.
A wonderful group of smiling parents from one of my workshops. We explored how to foster creativity in their children by letting go of perfectionism and embracing fun. Their commitment to their own growth is the greatest gift they can give to their kids.
About Coaching for Parents: The Art of Unparenting
My 'Unearth' program is not about parenting hacks or discipline strategies. It is a safe harbor where you bring your confusion, exhaustion, and patterns you inherited. In these 6-week cohorts, we work in intimate groups of six because the most profound changes happen when you realize you are not the only one struggling to stay calm. We use writing not for perfection, but as a mirror to understand ourselves.
Why 'Unparenting' Matters
Many of us were raised in environments where silence was compliance and lecturing was guidance. When we become parents, we often default to those same loops. Unparenting is not about abandoning your role as a parent. It is about abandoning the need to be the authority figure who has all the answers. It is about letting go of the ego so you can actually see your child.
How the Cohorts Work
I intentionally cap these groups at six participants. This is essential because, in a world where everyone has an opinion on how you should raise your kids, you need a space where no one is judging you.
We meet weekly for 90 minutes. We start with a grounding exercise to leave the day's stress behind. We then move into vulnerability circles where we read reflections aloud and discuss the challenges of the week. You are not coming here to learn theory. You are coming here to do the heavy lifting of looking inward. Sab chalta hai here—you can come to a session feeling messy, confused, or unsure, and that is exactly where the work begins.
The Role of Writing
I use creative writing as our primary tool for self-discovery. You do not need to be a writer to join. Through simple prompts and journaling exercises, we uncover subconscious blocks that keep us in reactive parenting modes. Writing helps you slow down your thoughts, separate your triggers from your child's behavior, and find clarity.
My approach is to provide the container—the 'sootradhar'—while you provide the content. Whether it is navigating teenage rebellion, managing your own anxiety, or building a more honest connection with your spouse and children, this process helps you own your story. When you change how you show up for yourself, you naturally change how you show up for your family.
Sailing Leaf
I am not here to tell you how to raise your child because you know them best. I am here to hold the thread, or 'sootradhar' as I call it, so you can reconnect with your own calm and clarity. When you change, the air in your home changes too.
