A bathroom should be more than a utility; it is a private sanctuary for quiet rituals and repose. I design these spaces to focus on a pared-down, neutral palette, using honest, tactile textures and thoughtful lighting to evoke a sense of deep, lasting calm.

In this powder room, a palette of soft greens and browns creates a calming effect. The ribbed texture of the tiles, a hammered copper sink, and a mercury glass pendant light come together to form a space that is rich in texture.

This powder room is a delightful mix of patterns and textures. A vibrant floral wallpaper and matching countertop are balanced by the smooth, cool finish of the lime-plastered walls and a simple wooden vanity.

I often use patterned tiles to add character to a space. Here, a backsplash of colorful encaustic tiles provides a vibrant contrast to the modern concrete sink and minimalist black fixtures.

This bathroom is wrapped in the warm, earthy tones of natural stone tile. The clean lines of the wooden vanity and cabinetry create a seamless look, resulting in a space that feels both luxurious and grounded.

For this bathroom, I used large format tiles with a metallic, bronze-like finish to create a dramatic and immersive experience. The backlit circular mirror adds a soft glow, balancing the moodiness of the space.

This video gives a glimpse into several 'soul space' bathrooms I have designed. Each one uses a unique combination of materials, from patterned tiles and exposed brick to smooth micro-concrete, to create a distinct and personal atmosphere.

A powder room is a chance to be playful. Here, a chevron-patterned floor, glossy green subway tiles, and a damask wallpaper create a space with layered textures and a touch of vintage charm.

Simplicity can be very powerful. In this shower nook, a clean, minimalist concrete bench sits on a floor of beautiful Moroccan-inspired tiles, creating a functional detail that is also a moment of beauty.

About Serene Bath Spaces

A bathroom’s serenity is often found in the textures you touch and the light you encounter. Rather than standard glossy surfaces, I often prefer the tactile depth of lime plaster, raw stone, or hand-hammered metals to shift the atmosphere from clinical to restorative, ensuring the space feels as grounded and personal as the rest of your home.

Designing Your Personal Sanctuary

When we approach a bathroom renovation in a busy urban setting like Delhi or Gurugram, the goal is always to carve out a moment of stillness. A space for a morning ritual or an evening wind-down should feel like a relief, not a continuation of the day's noise.

The Power of Materiality

We move away from mass-produced, uniform aesthetics. Instead, we look for materials that age and breathe. Natural stone, such as Kota or Sadarhalli, provides a grounded base, while lime plaster or micro-concrete offers a soft, monolithic texture that catches light beautifully. In our powder room designs, we enjoy being more experimental—incorporating floral wallpapers, antique brass accents, or custom vanities to create a space that feels like a jewel box.

Lighting as a Design Material

Light is never an afterthought. We treat it as a primary design element, layering ambient lighting with focused, anti-glare task lights. Whether it is a backlit circular mirror that casts a soft, halo-like glow or a pendant light that warms a corner, the way light interacts with your chosen materials changes the mood of the room entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you handle small, windowless bathrooms? We use lighter, reflective textures and clever lighting layouts to push the boundaries of the room, making it feel expansive rather than enclosed.

Do you incorporate bespoke furniture in baths? Yes. We often design floating vanities in natural wood or stone, tailored exactly to your storage needs and the architectural rhythm of the room.

Can you integrate heritage elements into a modern bath? Absolutely. We love blending the old with the new—perhaps an antique brass faucet paired with clean, minimalist stone tiling to create a 'modern heritage' vibe that feels both grounded and fresh.

I founded Saka Studio to chase the idea that architecture can be poetry, not just walls and roofs. My team and I approach every bathroom as a place for quiet ritual, focusing on how light dances across stone and how texture grounds a space, ensuring your home feels truly alive.
