Himalayan Photography Tours in Ladakh & Zanskar

I guide small, focused photography expeditions to the raw, high-altitude deserts of Ladakh and Zanskar. Join me to capture the dramatic scale of the mountains and the silence of the high-altitude winters.

The view from my window seat on a flight to Leh for the Snow Leopard Expedition. The endless expanse of snow-covered Himalayas is a visual treat and a powerful reminder of nature's scale.

An aerial view of the high-altitude desert landscape surrounding Leh. The intricate patterns of the river valley and fields are stunning from above.

The city of Leh as seen from above during my winter trip. The entire valley is painted in muted winter tones, with the snow-capped Stok range looming in the distance.

A landscape from Ladakh in December, where temperatures dropped to minus 15 degrees Celsius. The cold creates a unique, stark beauty in the high-altitude desert.

The Stakna Monastery seen from across the Indus River in Ladakh. The winter light and dry landscape create a scene of serene and stark beauty.

Somewhere in the mountains of Himachal, I left a piece of my soul. The raw beauty of the rocky terrain and the flowing stream is what draws me back to the Himalayas time and again.

For those of us used to 35 degree Celsius weather, riding in search of snow is an adventure in itself. This was captured during a ride through the snow-covered roads of Lahaul in 2023.

About this collection

These aren't sightseeing trips where you jump out for a quick photo. We spend our days chasing the right light and our evenings reviewing histograms. Expect early starts at 3 AM to catch the perfect dawn, and be prepared to handle your gear in sub-zero temperatures. It is physically demanding, but the results—the silence of the mountains, the dramatic peaks—are worth the effort.

When you join a high-altitude expedition, we aren't just ticking off monuments. I prioritize teaching you to see the landscape. We study the light, the terrain, and the weather patterns. Whether it's the stark, muted tones of Leh in mid-winter or the vibrant river valleys, my goal is to help you build a cohesive visual story.

Technical Mastery at Altitude

High-altitude photography requires more than just a wide-angle lens. I teach you how to manage battery life in extreme cold, how to handle tripod stability on uneven rocky terrain, and how to read the landscape for the best exposure. We practice on-location, so you learn to react to the changing light of the Himalayas in real-time.

The Logistics

We keep groups small and transport efficient—usually three photographers per vehicle—so you have space for your gear. From the remote monasteries of Zanskar to the quiet, snow-laden roads of Lahaul, every itinerary is designed for maximum creative opportunity and minimal logistical stress. You’ll be staying in heated, reliable properties that keep you comfortable even when the mercury drops well below zero.

I’m Pratap. I swap the comfort of Bangalore for the freezing, wild heights of the Himalayas because that’s where the best stories are. I’m not just leading a tour; I’m inviting you to stand by my side and capture the raw beauty of the mountains exactly as I see it.
