About Macro World: Insects & Spiders

Macro photography isn't just about owning a macro lens; it is about controlling your light and finding the right angle. Whether you are aiming for a crisp shot of a dragonfly or capturing the geometry of a signature spider's web, we focus on manual focus and natural lighting techniques that bring these tiny subjects to life. You learn to get down to eye level with your subject, a process that changes how you view the parks right here in our city.

Learning to See Small

Most people walk past the treasures of our local biodiversity parks like Sunder Nursery or Bhondsi Nature Park without noticing them. Our macro workshops are designed to slow you down. We move away from the 'auto' settings that often struggle with tiny subjects and teach you how to manage depth-of-field, shutter speed, and focus stacking to create images that reveal textures and colors the naked eye often misses.

The Practical Approach

We don't do classroom theory. Our sessions are held outdoors in the field where the subjects live.

  • For Beginners: Learn the basics of finding subjects like the Blue Tiger butterfly or the Common Green Bottle Fly, and how to stabilize your camera for sharp, handheld shots.
  • For Enthusiasts: We dive into advanced techniques, including macro lighting management, manual focus efficiency, and how to approach insects without disturbing their natural behavior.

Why Macro Matters

Beyond the technical skills, this is about conservation. When you spend an hour observing a single insect—like the Common Mormon feeding on a flower—you start to appreciate the delicate balance of our ecosystem. We teach you how to identify species, understand their habits, and photograph them ethically.

Bring whatever gear you have, from your phone to a DSLR or mirrorless camera. The goal is to walk away with a deeper understanding of the wildlife that shares our urban spaces.

I’m usually the person lying on the grass at Sunder Nursery or Bhondsi, waiting for a dragonfly to land so I can get that perfect shot. I believe in teaching by doing, not lecturing, so I’ll be right there with you helping you nail your focus and lighting.
