Stories come to life in our cozy library. After every tale, we dive into painting, crafting, or making puppets, so children leave with a piece of the adventure in their hands.

Children are deeply engaged in a coloring activity related to our story about sea animals. Using lapboards on the floor creates a relaxed and comfortable crafting environment.

Look at these proud smiles. After a story about friendship and kindness, the children hold up their beautiful handprint art, a wonderful reminder of the day's theme.

Children and parents work together on a dot painting craft, inspired by the story of "Josephine and her Magic Shoes." Our craft sessions are a great opportunity for family bonding.

Using leaves collected from a nature walk, children create their own "Little Vinayaka" art. We love incorporating natural materials into our crafts to connect kids with the world around them.

Little hands are hard at work coloring pictures of a "ghariyal" after hearing its adventurous story. Coloring helps develop fine motor skills and concentration.

A wider view of our crafting circle, showing children, parents, and storytellers all creating together. It's a true community effort.

An interactive moment during the craft session, where children are up and moving, still buzzing with the energy of the story.

About Hands-On Creative Fun

Every craft we do is tied directly to the day’s story, so you won't find generic coloring pages here. Whether it’s using dried leaves from our garden after a nature tale or painting paper puppets to act out a scene, we focus on tactile activities that help children process the emotions and characters they just encountered.

How our creative sessions work

At Ourstoryshelf, the story is just the beginning. We believe that the act of creating—be it painting, cutting, or gluing—is how children bridge the gap between hearing a story and internalizing its message. When we read a book about friendship, we don't just talk about it; we craft tokens of kindness to take home.

What to expect in your session

We set up our craft area right here in 'The Green Pocket' in Rustam Bagh. We stick to simple, accessible materials like paper, crayons, popsicle sticks, and occasionally, natural items gathered from our own little patch of garden. Because we run our sessions with moderate group sizes, every child gets the attention they need to complete their project.

Why we prioritize hands-on play

Our goal isn't a perfect art piece to put on a fridge; it’s the process. We want to see messy hands and proud smiles. Whether we are making bookmarks inspired by a story about empathy or creating puppets for a shadow play, these activities help develop fine motor skills and, more importantly, let children express how the story made them feel.

Parents are welcome to join the circle. We often find that when parents sit on our floor dhurries and participate in the crafting, the entire experience becomes a lovely family bonding moment.
