About Performances at Festivals & Temples
Performing at sacred sites like the Tanjore Brihadeeswarar Temple or the Dharmaraya Swamy Devasthana isn't just about stage presence; it’s a spiritual experience that pushes our dancers to find a deeper connection within their adavus. When we perform at these festivals, our students don't just dance for an audience—they dance as an offering, learning the discipline of holding their posture and grace for hours under open skies, far removed from the comfort of a studio mirror.
Dancing in a temple environment requires a shift in mindset that is entirely different from studio practice. It isn't a typical performance with controlled lighting or a flat wooden stage. It is raw, spiritual, and demanding. Our dancers train to maintain their aramandi and grace even when the ground is uneven or the atmosphere is buzzing with devotees.
We treat these opportunities as the natural culmination of the Guru-Shishya tradition. When my girls prepare for these events, they aren't just memorizing choreography; they are learning to offer their bhakti through movement. Whether it’s performing Bhavayami Raghuraman or a complex varnam at the Big Temple, the focus is always on sanchari and abhinaya that touches the heart.
For students aspiring to reach this level, we bridge the gap between classroom practice and professional stage readiness. It takes time, patience, and the right guidance to move from basic adavus to standing before a temple deity with confidence. We prepare them to handle the pressure of live broadcasts and massive crowds, ensuring that by the time they step onto that stage, they are ready to shine as one united Nrithyakuteera family.

I’m Deepa Bhat, and my goal is to guide my makla from the studio to the sacred stage. Watching them offer their dance at holy temples like Tirumala makes my heart full—it’s the true test of their dedication and grace.
