Grand Bharatanatyam Productions and Ensemble Performances
We believe dance is a prayer we share. From the hallowed stages of Mysore Dasara to grand musicals, our ensemble performances bring ancient stories to life through synchronised devotion.
A beautiful moment of synchronicity with my fellow dancers during a group performance for an ICCR cultural evening. Group choreographies teach us coordination, teamwork, and the joy of dancing as one.
This excerpt from our Varnam depicts the divine Raas Leela of Lord Krishna with the Gopis. Group performances allow us to tell larger, more intricate stories from our mythology.
As Gopikavallabha, the beloved of the Gopis. This picture from Aharnishi 2024 captures the essence of devotion and storytelling that we explore in our group productions.
A powerful performance at the Mysore Palace for Dasara 2024, set against the backdrop of Nataraja. Performing on such grand stages is an experience we cherish as a troupe.
Performing the anthem of the Mysore kingdom in praise of Goddess Chamundeshwari at the palace itself was a deeply moving experience. This is the kind of cultural immersion my students get to be a part of.
A backstage moment with the incredible cast of 'The Great Indian Musical' at NMACC. Being part of such a massive production was a huge learning experience in discipline and collaboration.
The full dance ensemble for 'The Great Indian Musical'. It took months of hard work to bring this show to life, showcasing the power of many artists working together.
About this collection
Coordination in a group performance requires more than just clean footwork; it demands a unified breath. When we prepare for events, we focus intensely on spatial awareness and the precision of our formations to ensure every dancer moves as one. It is about balancing individual expression with the geometric beauty of the group.
The Art of the Ensemble
Performance is not just about the steps, but the energy created when multiple dancers move in unison. In our ensemble work, we focus heavily on 'Araimandi' (the half-sit posture) consistency and perfect line alignment. Whether it is a classical Varnam or a thematic musical, the goal is to create a visual harmony that transcends individual technique.
Our Performance Journey
We have been blessed with opportunities to perform on prestigious stages, from the grand Mysore Palace during Dasara to the modern grandeur of NMACC for 'The Great Indian Musical'. These experiences have shaped how we approach choreography. It is a mix of rigorous discipline and spiritual offering.
What Goes into a Production
- Synchronisation: Hours of rehearsal dedicated to breath control and rhythm to ensure the group acts as a single entity.
- Abhinaya: Even in a group, individual expressions must tell the story clearly to the audience.
- Adaptability: We are accustomed to performing in diverse settings, from traditional temple platforms to large proscenium stages, ensuring our spacing and formations are tailored to the venue dimensions.
Collaborative Spirit
Dance is a family. My students and fellow artists at Brundavan bring their own dedication to these performances. If you are looking for an ensemble that combines traditional Bharatanatyam roots with professional stage discipline for your cultural event, festival, or musical production, we are here to bring that vision to life.
Shreya Balaji
I am Shreya, and I believe dance is a prayer we offer together. Whether we are preparing for a festival stage or a collaborative musical, I pour my heart into creating choreography that feels sacred and true. It is a joy to share this journey with my students and fellow dancers.
