About Winter Collection: Overcoats & Safari Jackets
The biggest issue with ready-made winter overcoats is they often feel stiff and boxy, restricting movement when layered over a suit. At Nine, I build my coats using lighter cashmere-wool blends and half-canvas construction to keep the silhouette sharp without that heavy feeling. When you visit the studio, we don't just measure your chest; we ensure the coat drapes correctly over your blazer so you can sit, reach, and move comfortably all day.
How We Build For Winter
For my overcoats, we source heavy GSM fabrics—like pure wool and cashmere blends—that trap heat without adding bulk. We use breathable linings, usually cupro or heavy satin, to make sure you stay comfortable even if you step into a heated room. If you want that extra layer of luxury, we can add detachable fur or shearling collars, a detail that completely changes the look.
The Safari Jacket Approach
On the safari jacket side, we shift gears to linen-silk-wool blends. These are designed for versatility. You get the structure of a blazer with the utility of functional pockets. We build them with a softer structure, making them perfect for layering over a sweater or wearing with a shirt for a cleaner, modern look.
Our Process
The process is simple. You come to my Defence Colony studio, we look at the fabric books from mills like Loro Piana or Dormeuil, and we figure out exactly what kind of weight and style you need for your winter plans. We do at least two fittings to make sure the shoulder pitch and sleeve length are perfect before the final steam press. If you have a specific event or a travel destination in mind, tell me. It helps me choose the right fabric weight for you.
