About this collection
My sessions with Azai are the exact blueprint for the classes I teach. We focus on water conditioning, starting with gentle splashes during bathtime at 4 months, moving to breath control, and eventually independent swimming by 9 months. It is not about forcing skills; it is about creating a consistent, positive routine where your child feels safe enough to explore the water at their own pace.
When I first took Azai into the water, I wasn't just being a swim coach; I was being a parent navigating the same worries you might have. Is it safe? Will he cry? These are valid concerns, and my method is built on answering them with patience.
My approach to infant swimming in Mumbai is based on consistency rather than intensity. We start at home with simple, daily bathtime activities—this is the foundation of water conditioning. By the time we enter a pool, your child is already comfortable with the feeling of water on their face, eyes, and ears. This drastically reduces fear and makes the transition to the pool fun.
Here is what our process looks like:
- Water Conditioning: We start small, using toys and songs to get comfortable with splashes. This is vital before we introduce more complex survival skills.
- Breath Control: Using gentle cues like 'ready, go,' we teach babies to hold their breath and prepare for submersion, helping them learn to stay calm underwater.
- Survival Skills: We work on 'turn and grab' techniques, teaching your child how to recover and find the wall if they ever fall in.
- Parent-Child Bonding: My classes are designed for you to be in the water too. You provide the security, and I provide the professional guidance to make these moments count.
Every child develops differently. Azai had days where he was crabby, and we just played instead of practicing. That flexibility is key. My goal is to make sure your child develops a lifelong love for the water, not just a set of skills.
