The Real Benefits of Yoga: Mind, Body, and Breath
Yoga is more than just poses. It is a practical tool for managing stress, fixing your desk-job posture, and actually getting restful sleep. Here is how a consistent practice can help you.
Why practice yoga? This graphic introduces six reasons that go far beyond just fitness, touching on mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
Feeling stressed? Yoga calms your mind. Poses like Purvottanasana (Reverse Plank) open the heart and chest, helping to counteract the physical effects of stress and anxiety.
Always distracted? Yoga builds focus. The practice of holding a pose like this standing backbend requires concentration, which trains your mind to be more present.
Slouching at your desk all day? Yoga fixes your posture. Twisting poses like this variation of Uttanasana (Forward Fold) help to realign the spine and strengthen the muscles that support good posture.
Struggling to sleep? Yoga improves rest. Gentle forward folds like Ardha Hanumanasana (Half Split) help to calm the nervous system, preparing your body for a restful night.
Practicing yoga every day will reduce anxiety, improve posture, lower stress hormones, and improve joint health and sleep. This flow demonstrates how dynamic movement can benefit your overall wellness.
About this collection
I combine Hatha and Vinyasa styles to ensure you get both stability and movement. In my rooftop studio, we focus on what your body needs today, not what a textbook says it should be doing. Whether you are dealing with a stiff back from a desk job or just need to quiet your mind after a long day, we start exactly where you are.
Yoga is not about being flexible or reaching your toes on day one. It is about showing up for yourself. My practice is designed to help you navigate modern life, not to perform for social media.
Why Practice Matters
- Relieving Stress & Anxiety: We use Pranayama (breathwork) to signal your nervous system to calm down. It is not about emptying your mind, but about finding a rhythm that steadies your thoughts.
- Fixing Desk-Job Stiffness: If you sit in front of a computer all day, your chest, shoulders, and hips are likely tight. My sequences target these specific areas, using twists and heart-openers to realign your posture.
- Improving Rest: Gentle evening flows and Savasana (corpse pose) help shift your body into a state of rest, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
My Approach in Malleshwaram
My studio is a semi-open rooftop space. You will feel the breeze, hear the city, and be in a group of no more than 12 people. I provide all the props you need—mats, bricks, and straps—so you just have to show up.
I personally perform tactile adjustments because you cannot learn alignment from a screen alone. Whether you join me on the rooftop or connect via Google Meet, the goal is the same: to build a sustainable habit that makes you feel stronger and more balanced by the end of the month.
Gowri
I am Gowri. I started yoga when I was at my lowest, dealing with anxiety and being completely inflexible. Now, I teach from my rooftop studio in Malleshwaram because I believe yoga should be for real people, not just flexible ones.
