Professional Kiln Firing Services in Whitefield
Welcome to the heartbeat of my studio, where soft clay transforms into permanent, beautiful ceramics through the magic of my kiln, Ember.
I love this part of the process. This video shows how simple, bisque-fired plates are transformed by glaze and heat. The final result is always a little surprise, and seeing the colors come alive after the glaze firing is what makes all the patience worthwhile.
Here is a peek into the entire journey a piece takes in my studio. From being shaped on the wheel and getting a handle, to being glazed and carefully placed inside the kiln with others, every step is filled with love. The final shot shows a fully loaded kiln, ready to work its magic.
Meet Ember, the heart of my studio. This is my new Cone Art kiln, a modern and reliable machine that ensures every piece is fired perfectly. Having professional equipment like this allows me to achieve consistent results for both student work and my own ceramics.
For me, the kiln is more than just a machine. I held a small puja to welcome Ember into our studio, as it plays such a sacred role in turning soft clay into something permanent and beautiful. This is where the final transformation happens.
Every beautiful ceramic piece starts like this, as humble, unfired clay. These little bowls are what we call 'greenware', waiting patiently for their first trip to the kiln for bisque firing, which will make them strong enough for glazing.
About Featured
Firing is not an instant process; it is a two-stage journey that requires patience. I first bisque fire your greenware to 1000°C to harden it, and after you apply your glaze, I run a final, hotter glaze firing to 1220°C. Since I manage the kiln schedule for my own studio work and students, it is best to chat with me early if you have a specific deadline or a batch of pieces ready to fire.
Bringing Clay to Life
I believe the kiln is the place where clay dreams actually come alive. It is the final, unpredictable step that turns fragile greenware into strong, lasting ceramics. If you are an indie potter looking for stoneware firing, I am happy to help when my schedule allows.
My Firing Process
I operate an electric kiln named 'Ember', a precise, modern machine that ensures consistent results for every piece I fire.
- Bisque Firing: This initial firing hardens your greenware, making it tough and porous, which is essential for proper glazing. It is a slow, controlled process to ensure no cracks develop.
- Glaze Firing: This is where the magic happens. I fire to Cone 5 or 6, approximately 1220°C. This makes your pottery food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe.
Practical Details
- Timeline: Please do not expect shortcuts. A proper cycle includes loading, firing, and a mandatory 24-hour cooling period to prevent thermal shock.
- Capacity: I offer full kiln rentals if you have a large batch of 20 to 30 mugs and need priority scheduling, or you can pay by weight for smaller quantities.
- Safety: I inspect every piece for bone-dryness before it enters the kiln to avoid explosions during the firing cycle.
Let's get your beautiful pieces through the fire. Send me a message to check my current kiln availability.
