I document the raw energy of Mumbai's Ganesh Utsav. From the grand Aagman processions to the visarjan at Girgaon Chowpatty, I capture the faith and the heartbeat of the festival.

The Mumbaicha Raja idol during Visarjan, silhouetted against a breathtaking pink sunset. This photo captures the immense scale of the festival and the collective emotion of the farewell.

A cinematic film of the Ganesh Visarjan, capturing the final moments of the festival. The use of slow motion and emotive music, along with the phrase "Ajun thodasa thamb na," conveys the deep connection people have with this celebration.

A full view of a magnificent Ganesh idol during the Aagman Sohala, or welcoming procession. The shot is taken from a low angle to emphasize its grand size against the Mumbai skyline.

Devotees gather in the water at Girgaon Chowpatty for the visarjan (immersion) of the Mumbaicha Raja idol. This image captures the energy and devotion of the crowd as they bid farewell.

An intimate and poignant moment of a devotee offering prayers to a Ganesh idol before the visarjan. The dark, moody lighting and the focus on the personal act of worship create a powerful feeling of devotion.

A candid shot of a group of young devotees resting on the beach during the visarjan. Their smiles and camaraderie capture the joyful and communal spirit of the festival.

A detailed close up of a beautifully decorated Ganesh idol. I focused on the intricate artwork on the idol's face and the vibrant colors of the garlands.

The Chinchpoklicha Chintamani idol making its way through the crowded streets. I shot this from within the crowd to give a sense of the massive scale and the public's excitement.

This video captures the 'Aagman' or arrival of the Ganesh idols. I focused on the details, from people watching from their balconies to the ornate decorations on the idols themselves, all with a vintage film look.

A detail shot focusing on the back of a devotee's kurta, which has a custom patch for the festival. It's these small details that tell the larger story of community and celebration.

About Mumbai's Heartbeat: Ganesh Chaturthi

The visarjan at Girgaon Chowpatty is pure chaos, and that is exactly where the best stories happen. Instead of staying behind the barricades, I get into the crowd to capture the real moments of devotion and the collective push of the idol. To keep these shots clean despite the low light at night, I use high ISO settings on my Sony A7 IV, which allows me to maintain that cinematic look without losing detail in the shadows.
