Festivals in Mumbai are loud, intense, and full of raw energy. I don't just photograph the event; I focus on the faces, the costumes, and the fire. If you need coverage that feels as alive as the moment itself, let’s talk.

A powerful close-up of an artist portraying the goddess Kali. I focused on the intense expression and the dramatic fire element to capture the raw energy of the performance.

This cinematic reel captures the movement, color, and fire of the festival performance. Video is a great way to show the dynamic atmosphere of live cultural events.

An artist's striking portrayal of the goddess, captured at night. The vibrant blue makeup and intricate costume stand out dramatically against the dark background.

Another angle of the Kali performer, this time focusing on the interaction with the sacred fire. The lighting highlights the detailed makeup and skull decorations.

A direct, powerful portrait of a performer. The intense gaze, detailed makeup, and traditional jewelry tell a story of devotion and power.

A close-up portrait of another performer with striking green makeup and an ornate nose ring. I focus on capturing the unique details of each artist's costume and expression.

This shot captures the performer in a moment of ritual, with fire and smoke adding to the dramatic atmosphere of the street festival.

About Capturing Culture: Festivals & Events

Most festival photography gets ruined by harsh camera flashes that kill the mood. I prefer working with the environment—using the natural glow of diyas, fire performances, and street lights to create that gritty, cinematic look. If you want photos that show the sweat, the makeup, and the intensity rather than just posed smiles, that's my zone.

Shooting festivals isn't about standing back with a zoom lens. It's about being in the middle of the chaos. Whether it's a Navratri performance, a local street procession, or a traditional ceremony, the key is anticipating the moment before it happens.

I focus on the details that matter—the intricate makeup, the intense expression of the performer, and the movement in the crowd. For night events, I shoot at higher ISOs with fast lenses to handle the dark conditions without losing that 'filmic' grain. This keeps the atmosphere real rather than looking like a bright studio production.

For video, I use a gimbal to get smooth tracking shots as I weave through the crowd. This creates that immersive, 'first-person' feel perfect for Instagram Reels or event recaps. You get a mix of wide-angle energy shots that set the scene and tight, dramatic portraits of the performers.

If you have an upcoming event or a cultural performance in Mumbai, reach out. We can discuss the timeline, the specific rituals you want covered, and the vibe you're aiming for. I'm there to capture the energy, not just the attendance.

I'm Ankish, and I roam the streets of Mumbai looking for stories. When it comes to festivals, I stop looking for 'perfect' and start looking for 'intense.' My style is about getting right in the middle of the action, capturing the fire and the devotion without making it look like a staged photoshoot.
