I dive into the heart of the chaos to freeze the rhythm, devotion, and raw power of Mumbai's Dhol Tasha processions.

Capturing the peak of energy and devotion. This dynamic shot freezes a dhol player in a moment of acrobatic performance during a street festival.

A heartwarming moment of tradition being passed down, as a father teaches his young son how to play the dhol.

About The Energy of the Streets: Festivals & Events

Capturing the peak of a festival procession requires more than just a camera; it requires anticipation. I position myself to isolate the drummer from the crowd, focusing on the sweat, the intense focus, and that split-second release of energy when the rhythm hits its crescendo.

Street photography in a festival setting is not about wide shots that lose the subject in the masses. It is about finding the story within the noise. When I shoot a Dhol Tasha Pathak like Martand Bhairav, I am looking for the connection between the musician and their instrument.

My approach relies on fast shutter speeds to freeze movement, whether it is an acrobatic jump or the precise strike of a drumstick. I switch between vibrant color to highlight the traditional orange and gold attire and high-contrast black and white to strip away distractions, leaving only the emotion and the form.

This work is as much about endurance as it is about art. I move with the procession, anticipating the shifts in tempo and the faces that show pure 'Vadan Sukh' (the joy of playing). Whether you are part of a cultural group, organizing a festive event, or looking to document the spirit of Mumbai's street culture, I bring a candid, documentary style that keeps the energy alive long after the festival ends.

I am Ninad, and I do not stand on the sidelines during a procession; I get right into the thick of it. My camera is an extension of the chaos, capturing that raw, unfiltered pulse of Mumbai's street festivals. If you want photos that actually vibrate with the beat of the dhol, we should talk.
