Capturing the Soul of Maharashtrian Festivals
I don't just photograph people; I find the heart of our traditions in the small details. From the intricate artistry behind a Ganpati idol to the inviting spread of festive food, these frames tell the real story of our celebrations.
A festive flatlay showcasing the essentials of a Maharashtrian Diwali. This frame includes 'faral' like chakli and shankarpali, diyas, flowers, and firecrackers, artistically arranged to capture the complete essence of the celebration.
A beautifully crafted Ganpati idol, resting before the festival begins. This photo is a tribute to the 'murtikars' (idol makers), capturing the divine artistry and serene expression of Bappa in a single frame.
A behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Ganpati idols. This collage shows the skilled hands of the artists as they paint the fine details, bringing the clay to life. It's a tribute to their dedication and craft.
The workshop of a Ganpati 'murtikar', filled with idols in various stages of completion. This photo captures the scale of the work and the anticipation in the air as the entire community prepares to welcome Bappa.
A collage showing the contrast between a finished, painted Ganpati idol and an artist meticulously working on an unpainted one. This highlights the incredible transformation and skill involved in the art of idol making.
A detail shot of 'Kombdi Vade', a traditional delicacy often served at celebrations in Maharashtra. Capturing the food is part of telling the story of the event, as it's so central to our culture and gatherings.
About The Art of Celebration: Details & Ambiance
When I photograph a celebration, I look for the textures and the quiet corners that people often walk past. Whether it is the fine brushwork on a Ganpati idol or the steam rising from a plate of Kombdi Vade, these details are the ingredients of the atmosphere you want to remember. I shoot these not as mere objects, but as the context that makes your family's story feel complete and grounded.
Photography is my way of slowing down time to appreciate the craftsmanship and the comfort that defines our gatherings. In this gallery, you will see my focus on the 'art of celebration'—a documentary approach to the elements that set the mood for our festivals.
Why Details Matter
Often, in the rush of a wedding or a festival, we miss the quiet labor of love behind the scenes.
- The Artistic Process: My Ganpati series is a tribute to the murtikars (idol makers). Capturing them at work—painting eyes or molding clay—is as important to me as photographing the final pooja. It adds a layer of depth to your festive album.
- The Atmosphere of Food: We all know a Maharashtrian celebration is incomplete without food. I treat the festive spread with the same respect as a portrait session. Capturing the colors of faral (festive snacks) or the warmth of a traditional meal helps transport you back to that exact feeling of togetherness.
How I Work
I use professional prime lenses for these detail shots. This creates that dreamy background blur (bokeh) that keeps the focus sharp on the subject, whether it is a diya, a flower, or an idol. I don't use stiff setups. I prefer natural light and honest angles. Whether you are hosting a traditional Munj in Navi Mumbai or a festival gathering across Maharashtra, I am ready to travel and document these nuances for you. Let's make sure the little things that defined your day aren't lost in the shuffle.
