A meditative practice that balances your active life by targeting connective tissues, calming the nervous system, and releasing stored physical and emotional tension.

Waking up with Yin Yoga. This video demonstrates gentle stretches for the meridians of the liver, gallbladder, lungs, and large intestine, helping to release unprocessed emotions stored in the organs.

A "Know Your Yin Yoga" session in progress. Unlike restorative yoga, Yin can be challenging as we hold poses to stress the connective tissues, releasing stuck energy and improving flexibility.

A student in a supported reclining pose. Yin Yoga creates stillness in both body and mind. These long-held poses give you time to unwind and release, targeting bones, joints, and fascia.

This graphic explains that Yin Yoga is a wonderful way to refresh the body, open the heart, and clear the mind. It is a deeply meditative practice rooted in Daoist philosophy.

About this collection

Yin Yoga is frequently misunderstood as simple restorative yoga, but it is actually a challenging practice that intentionally stresses the fascia and connective tissues through long, passive holds. We are not just sitting still; we are actively using these holds to release emotional and physical tension stored in the body's energy meridians, which acts as a perfect counter-balance to the high-energy routines common in city life.

Understanding the 'Stillness'

Yin Yoga at Om YogaShala is a targeted, functional approach to health. Unlike dynamic (Yang) styles that primarily focus on muscle engagement, our Yin practice dives deeper to work with ligaments, joints, and fascia. By holding poses for several minutes, we create the necessary pressure to release tightness that standard exercise often misses.

The Mind-Body Connection

We weave in Ayurvedic wisdom and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles into every session. We focus on the body’s meridian system, the channels of energy that carry our 'prana'. When these channels become blocked, it often manifests as fatigue, anxiety, or physical rigidity. Through intentional stillness, we clear these blockages and bring the body back into harmony.

Why This Practice Matters

  • Nervous System Regulation: Long-held poses shift the body from a 'fight or flight' state to 'rest and digest,' calming the nervous system effectively.
  • Emotional Release: It is common to experience emotional shifts during class, as deep tissue release often uncovers long-held mental tension.
  • Complementary Training: Whether you are an athlete, a runner, or a regular Vinyasa practitioner, Yin serves as the essential counter-pose to your active lifestyle.

Who Is This For?

Our sessions are designed for everyone, from beginners to experienced practitioners. Because the poses are passive and floor-based, we can easily modify them to suit your specific flexibility or injury requirements. If you feel that your daily life has left you feeling 'stuck' or overstimulated, this practice offers the grounding you need.

My journey into Yin wasn't planned. It was born out of my own struggle with restlessness and the need to find quietude in movement. I don't teach this as a trend, but as a practical, meditative tool to help you navigate the complexities of city life.
