Vinyasa Krama: Movement as Meditation
I teach a style of yoga where every breath connects to a specific movement. This is Vinyasa Krama—a logical, intelligent sequence designed to prepare your body for poses while calming your nervous system.
This video shows the essence of Vinyasa Krama: a group moving in unison, linking breath to movement. Each sequence has a purpose, preparing the body for a peak pose and then cooling it down with counterposes.
A glimpse into a Vinyasa Krama class. The practice is a seamless flow from one posture to the next, creating a dynamic and meditative experience that builds heat and purifies the body.
This video demonstrates the concept of 'Krama' or logical progression. We start with simple movements and build up to more complex asanas like Downward-Facing Dog, ensuring the body is properly prepared.
How do I approach asana practice? My goal is to use the sequence to ease over-activity in the mind and correct physical imbalances, ultimately leading to a state of 'Satva' or clarity.
A demonstration of a dynamic Vinyasa flow, moving through various standing and balancing poses. This practice is designed to build lean muscle, improve stability, and enhance neuromuscular efficiency.
This sequence shows a flow from a lunge to Warrior III and then to Warrior II. Vinyasa Krama emphasizes smooth, controlled transitions between postures, which builds coordination and grace.
Demonstrating the progression into Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose). This requires a combination of balance, flexibility, and strength, all cultivated through consistent practice.
About this collection
You will not find random, repetitive sequences in my classes. Vinyasa Krama is built on the principle of 'krama,' or logical progression. We start with simple movements to warm the joints, gradually build heat, and prepare the body for peak asanas. Every session concludes with 15 minutes of dedicated Pranayama and breathwork, because without that internal focus, it is just exercise, not yoga.
My approach is deeply rooted in the lineage of my teacher, Srivatsa Ramaswami. When you join a session at my Westend Colony studio, you are entering a space designed to help you shift from a state of restlessness to one of clarity, or 'Satva.'
Why Sequence Matters
In many modern classes, students jump into complex poses without preparation. My method is the opposite. We use preparatory vinyasas to build the stability and range of motion required for more challenging postures. If we are working toward an inversion, you will already have warmed up your shoulders and engaged your core. This reduces the risk of injury and makes the practice sustainable for your joints.
What to Expect
- Adaptability: Whether you are dealing with a stiff back or are an experienced practitioner, I provide modifications using props like cork blocks, belts, and bolsters. The practice meets you where you are.
- Breathwork Integration: Breath is the primary tool for regulating your nervous system. We utilize Ujjayi breathing throughout the flow to build heat and focus, and we end every class with deep, conscious breathing to cool the mind.
- Mind-Body Reset: We address the 'stuck' energy in the body. By moving consciously and syncing that movement with your breath, you learn to observe the fluctuations of the mind rather than just reacting to them.
This is not about achieving the 'perfect' pose. It is about understanding the mechanics of your own body, building a sequence that supports your specific needs, and creating a daily ritual that brings balance to your life outside the studio.

I came to yoga after years of strength training, realizing that movement alone wasn't enough to calm my mind. My practice is a spirit lab, mixing classical Vinyasa Krama with Ayurvedic wisdom to help you build habits that last beyond the mat.
