Advanced Yoga Practice: Deepen Your Flow and Strength
Advanced practice isn't about reaching the final pose; it's about the steady journey of strength and awareness. Let’s explore your limits safely.
Exploring Eka Pada Bakasana (One-Legged Crow Pose) outdoors. Arm balances teach us that letting go of fear is the greatest strength.
Moving into a variation of Sirsasana (Headstand). Advanced inversions challenge our perspective and remind us of the strength we hold within.
The secret to achieving Pincha Mayurasana (Forearm Stand) is simple: practice, persistence, and patience. The journey of getting there is more important than the pose itself.
I tried this forearm wheel pose after five years and was amazed at how the body remembers. It's a testament to how a mindful practice creates lasting harmony.
This flowing transition into Eka Pada Bakasana (One-Legged Crow Pose) is a beautiful example of how practice grows when you let go of expectations and just move with love.
Unlocking the Scorpion pose in Pincha Mayurasana for the first time was a special moment. It’s a reminder that with dedication, firsts can happen at any stage of the journey.
A grounding practice is essential to balance the ego that can arise from achieving advanced asanas. This flow helps me stay connected to my roots.
Playing with Matsyasana (Fish Pose) in Padmasana (Lotus Pose). The practice of yoga is a constant reminder that joy is always within you.
Just playing around with headstand variations after a long time. It’s important to have fun with your practice and explore movement without pressure.
When your foundation is strong, life feels like a playground. Here, I'm exploring different leg variations in Sirsasana (Headstand).
About Advanced Practice: Deepen Your Flow
Advanced yoga is often misunderstood as just having the flexibility to perform a complex pose. For me, it is the opposite. It is about control, stability, and the patience to understand how your body moves. In my workshops, we spend time on the mechanics—like how to stack your joints for a handstand or open your shoulders for a deeper backbend—so you can advance without the fear of injury or burnout.
Advanced practice requires Sabr aur Shukr (patience and gratitude). It is easy to get caught up in the ego of wanting to nail a Scorpion pose or a perfect Headstand, but those are just milestones. The real work happens in the quiet moments of the transition and the breath.
How We Approach Advanced Asanas
When you join my sessions, whether at my regular workshops in Malad West or private group sessions, we don't just rush into the shape. We focus on:
- Safe Alignment: We break down techniques step-by-step so you understand the engagement required for inversions and arm balances.
- Breathwork (Pranayama): This is your anchor. If you lose your breath, you lose the pose. We use breath to stay calm when you are upside down or holding a challenging balance.
- Individual Modifications: Every body is different. I provide variations so that if you are stiff or still building strength, you can still find the essence of the pose without strain.
Why Practice With Me?
I believe in Yoga se sab Hoga (Everything is possible with yoga), but only if you take it one day at a time. I have helped students who were convinced they could never do a backbend find the joy in the process. We focus on the 'work-in' rather than just the workout. My classes are a mix of Ashtanga and Hatha flows, designed to help you build stamina while keeping your mind quiet.
If you are feeling stuck or frustrated with your progress, come join a session. We will get back to basics, fix the foundation, and build that strength back up together. It is not about being perfect; it is about showing up.
