About Behind the Scenes & Our Techniques

Many people ask how my makeup base stays flawless, especially during long wedding ceremonies. The secret isn't just expensive products, but how you prep the skin and set the layers. I often show my students how using a damp blending sponge with a setting spray creates a glass-skin finish that locks in moisture while remaining smudge-proof. It is about building the product correctly, not just piling it on.

When you are in the chair, you might not see the science happening, but it is there. Whether it is a traditional South Indian muhurtham or a modern engagement, the goal is always durability. Bangalore weather and long ceremony hours can be tough on makeup, which is why I focus heavily on waterproof and transfer-proof base application.

My process starts with a deep focus on skin prep—understanding your skin type before a single brush touches your face. I teach my students that the 'cakey' look usually comes from poor blending or skipping the CTM (Cleansing, Toning, Moisturizing) routine. We use techniques like color correction to tackle pigmentation without needing heavy layers of foundation.

In our Mahalakshmi Layout studio, we don't just apply makeup; we teach the theory behind it. We experiment with airbrushing for that pore-filling, 16-hour durability, and we practice hair artistry that keeps a bun or a braid secure for hours under heavy temple jewellery. If you see me on stage at events like the South India Makeup Carnival, the techniques I demonstrate there are the exact same ones I use for my brides.

My approach is simple: understand the client, use the right tools for the heat and humidity, and ensure the hair and saree draping are as sturdy as the makeup. If you have been wondering how we get that 'filter-like' finish, feel free to reach out. I am always happy to explain what goes into your look.
