Playful Indian Classical Music Classes for Toddlers
We bring the world of Indian classical music to children from 6 months to 5 years through rhythm, movement, and hands-on discovery.
A bird's eye view of our jamming session, where little hands get to explore a variety of Indian percussion instruments. We gather in a circle to share sounds and rhythms, fostering a wonderful sense of community and musical discovery.
Here is one of our favorite learning tools in action. We use these colorful, stackable blocks to introduce the sargam notes (Sa, Re, Ga, Ma), turning the fundamentals of Indian classical music into a fun, visual game for our toddlers.
Watch our little ustaads in their element. This video captures moments of deep concentration while learning the tabla, joyful group movement, and the excitement of discovering new sounds with instruments like the dholak and manjira.
There is so much joy in free expression. We use props like these flowing red ribbons to help children connect with the music through movement, encouraging them to dance and feel the rhythm in their own unique way.
This is what our favorite part of the class looks like: the instrument jam session. Children gather around a collection of mini instruments, learning to play, share, and listen to the music they create together.
About Featured
We don't do boring lectures here. In these sessions, you will see toddlers handling real instruments—mini tablas, dholaks, and manjiras—while they pick up Sargam notes through play. It is messy, loud, and exactly how children build a genuine connection with music. If you want to see if your little one is ready to start their musical journey, a trial session is the best place to begin.
A New Approach to Traditional Music
Little Ustaads was founded in 2008 with a simple belief: fun and education should go hand in hand. We introduce children as young as 6 months to the rich world of Indian Classical music, focusing on discovery rather than rigid practice.
What Happens in Our Sessions
Our classes are designed for the 6-month to 5-year age group, creating a space where parents and children bond through rhythm. We move beyond recorded tracks, using live vocals to teach Raags and Taals.
Key pillars of our program include:
- Hands-on Instruments: We provide real, scaled-down versions of traditional instruments like the Tabla, Dholak, and Manjira. This helps children develop motor skills and an intuitive sense of rhythm.
- Playful Learning: We use visual aids like custom Sargam blocks to teach Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, turning abstract notes into a tactile game.
- Movement & Expression: We incorporate props like ribbons and Bandhani scarves, allowing children to express the music through dance and movement.
Why Start Early?
Early childhood is a critical window for auditory development. By exposing toddlers to complex rhythmic structures and classical vocals in a safe, play-based environment, we help them develop a lifelong appreciation for our culture. Whether you are in Mumbai or Jaipur, our centers offer a consistent, high-quality environment where your child can explore these sounds freely. All our sessions are limited to small groups of 8-12 children, ensuring that every little ustaad gets the attention they need to flourish.
