Rediscover the joy of holding something real. From custom rocking horses and whimsical clocks to personalized nameboards, these pieces are built to last and bring personality to your home.

A fun assortment of projects from a workshop: a handmade wooden sword and a custom watch stand, proving that woodworking can be both playful and practical.

A student proudly holds the hexagon clock she designed and built. The clock face features cut-out geometric shapes for a modern, minimalist aesthetic.

A prototype for a Jallikattu racing game bull, carved from scrap wood. This small project explores form and character, turning a simple block of wood into a dynamic figure.

A handmade wooden airplane, crafted from pine. The simple, sturdy design makes it a perfect toy, built to withstand countless hours of imaginative play.

Another view of the wooden toy airplane, showing the dowel joinery used for the engines and tail. It's a great example of how simple woodworking techniques can create lasting toys.

A collection of rocking horse prototypes in various designs and sizes. I offer workshops where you can build a custom rocking horse for your child, creating a family heirloom.

A large rocking horse being assembled in the workshop. The individual pieces have been cut and shaped, and are now being carefully glued and clamped together.

A side view of the rocking horse during assembly, held securely with clamps. This shows the solid wood construction and the careful shaping of each component.

Happy students from a basic carpentry workshop with their creations: a whimsical cat-shaped clock and a functional window-style frame.

About Handmade Toys & Decorative Accents

When you choose a handmade piece or come to the workshop to build it yourself, you are not just buying an object. You are selecting the wood grain, the joint strength, and the finish that makes a rocking horse or a nameboard last for years. I use materials like solid pine and BWP plywood to ensure these items survive daily life, whether that is a toddler's playtime or your daily routine.

Why Handmade Matters

Mass-produced items often prioritize speed over substance. When I build a toy or a decorative accent, I prioritize durability. Whether it is a rocking horse designed to handle a child's energy or a clock meant to last on your wall, the construction method matters.

My Process

I work with a mix of hand tools and power tools, depending on the job. For toys like rocking horses and airplanes, I focus on sturdy joinery—often using dowels or traditional techniques that don't rely on just glue. For home decor, like the custom nameboards or wall clocks you see here, I use routers for clean carving and precise geometric cuts.

Materials & Finish

  • Wood Choice: I stick to reliable materials like Solid Pinewood or Boiling Water Proof (BWP) Plywood for structural pieces. For finer decor, I use imported hardwoods.
  • Safety & Feel: Toys are sanded to a smooth finish to prevent splinters, and I use non-toxic, natural oils or water-based polyurethane to protect the wood without a thick, plastic-like film.

Can you build it?

If you have a design in mind—maybe a specific animal cutout, a stylized clock, or a toy you saw in a picture—we can likely build it. If you want to learn how to make it yourself, check out my weekend carpentry workshops. You come in with an idea, learn to use a jigsaw or router, and leave with a finished project.
