I paint landscapes to capture the stories behind the places I visit. From the lush, tropical greens of the Konkan coast to the quiet, spiritual energy of the Varanasi ghats, each watercolor piece here is a memory brought to life.

Beautiful Konkan. I tried to take a break from my regular cityscapes to paint this 12x12 inch watercolor. Painting foliage is always difficult, but I enjoyed the process.

It's always a delight to paint with watercolor, it's such a beautiful medium. This is another landscape inspired by the greens of the Konkan coast, painted on paper with Daniel Smith watercolors.

Two quick landscape sketches I did in watercolor on paper. Landscape painting is not easy and requires a lot of practice, especially for someone like me who usually paints cityscapes.

I call this 'The Power of Silence'. It's a landscape study in monochrome, using only black and white watercolor on paper to create a moody, atmospheric scene.

A panoramic landscape painting in watercolor on Baohong cold press paper. I did this on a Sunday, and it felt great to paint a watercolor landscape after a long time.

This landscape is from a workshop with watercolor master Joe Dowden. I'm happy with this simple outcome, as I am more of a cityscape painter.

This piece was from a workshop with the legendary David Taylor. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from two different masters at the IWS watercolor festival.

A street in the city of Prayagraj, painted in watercolor. I clicked this scene during my visit for the Mahakumbh. I wanted to sketch on location but didn't have time, so I'm painting from my memories.

An Old Delhi street scene, painted in watercolor on 9x12 inch Lana aquarelle paper. I enjoyed creating an Indian street scene after a long break.

This was my demonstration piece for a watercolor workshop I conducted at the Lemon Tree resort in Manesar. It was for the Golden Jubilee celebration of IIT Delhi, and I had a great time painting with the fun-loving group.

About Landscapes of India: From Konkan Greens to Varanasi Ghats

When I paint a landscape, I am not just capturing a scene, I am trying to hold onto a feeling. For the Konkan pieces, that meant tackling the challenge of layering foliage, while the Varanasi series required a softer approach to light and reflection. If you connect with a specific spot here, know that every piece is hand-painted on premium cotton paper, ready for you to frame and keep.

My process for these landscapes is a mix of on-location observation and studio refinement. Painting outdoors—whether in the busy streets of Prayagraj or the quiet corners of the Konkan coast—is a rush, but it also teaches me about observation. I use professional-grade Daniel Smith watercolors because they have a vibrancy that captures the true essence of these places.

Why I chose these mediums

  • Daniel Smith Watercolors: I rely on these for their granulation and color depth, which is essential when painting complex scenes like the ghats or dense tropical greenery.
  • Quality Paper: I work primarily on Baohong cold press or Lana aquarelle paper (100% cotton). This allows for multiple washes without the paper buckling, which is crucial for the atmospheric depth I aim for in my landscapes.

Understanding the work

You will notice a mix of styles here. Some pieces, like my monochrome studies, focus entirely on light, shadow, and the power of silence. Others are vibrant and full of movement. Whether I am painting from a quick sketch made during a trip or developing a larger piece in my studio, my goal remains the same: to make you feel like you are standing right there with me. These are not just paintings of places, they are snapshots of the moments where I felt most at peace. Every artwork is hand-signed and dated, reflecting a unique moment in my artistic journey.

I'm Juhi, a Delhi-based artist who believes art is found in the little things. My studio is my happy place, but I am always wandering—sketchbook in hand—to capture the pulse of India, from bustling streets to serene river banks. I paint these moments so you can bring a piece of that calm or chaos into your own home.
