Featured Artworks and Commissioned Pieces
I find so much happiness in the little things, and I love capturing those stories on canvas. Here is a glimpse into my work with oils and watercolors, ranging from live portraits to my city sketches.
This is an oil on linen portrait of Mirra, painted "alla prima" in a single, lively five-and-a-half-hour session. Her wonderful presence and smile truly made the day, and I focused on capturing that warmth and light in this commissioned piece.
A watercolor painting of a Varanasi ghat, a place that holds so many dear memories for me. Using Daniel Smith watercolors on Baohong cold press paper, I aimed to capture the serene yet vibrant atmosphere of the boats resting by the ancient steps.
Watch the creation of a portrait from a live session, from the first strokes to the finished piece. This time-lapse shows how I build up layers of oil on linen over three and a half hours to capture the subject's likeness and character.
This is what a live portrait session looks like. Here, you can see the finished oil portrait of Satyam on the easel, with him posing in the background. These sessions are an immersive experience where we work together to create something truly personal.
A memory from my travels, this is a watercolor cityscape of Florence, Italy, painted on Baohong cold press paper. I was so happy to see this piece exhibited at the prestigious Fabriano In Acquarello festival.
This is a Grisaille portrait, a study in monochrome values using oil on mount board. This technique allows me to focus purely on light, shadow, and form, creating a timeless and classic style of portraiture.
I call this little oil on canvas study 'Sacred Moments'. Painting still life from life, like this ceramic incense holder and a fresh flower, is a meditative process where I capture the essence and quiet beauty of everyday objects.
Welcome to a corner of my studio. This is my favorite room, a peaceful and sometimes messy space where I find solace and bring your stories to life on canvas. It’s filled with works in progress, cherished materials, and lots of inspiration.
About Featured
When I paint a live portrait, I use the Alla Prima technique, which means finishing the main work in one sitting to capture the raw energy and personality of the moment. It is less about perfection and more about creating an honest, immediate connection on the canvas, with plenty of time for conversation during the session.
I truly believe that art should feel personal, not just like a decorative object. Whether you want a portrait, an urban sketch, or a cityscape, I use artist-grade materials like Gamblin oils and Daniel Smith watercolors to ensure every piece lasts.
How I Work
- Live Portraits: I work in my studio or at live sessions in Delhi, usually in a 3-5 hour sitting. It is a collaborative process with plenty of chai breaks and conversation.
- Urban Sketches: These capture the soul of a place, from old Delhi lanes to quiet landscapes. I use 300 GSM cold press paper to bring out that distinct texture.
- Oil Commissions: For my larger commissions, I use a layered approach on linen. Oils need a 2-3 week curing time in my studio before they are ready to travel, but they give a depth of color that is hard to match.
Everything I make is signed, dated, and created with the intention of bringing a bit of joy to your home. If you have a memory, an old photograph, or a place that is dear to your heart, send it my way and let’s talk about how to bring it to life on canvas.
