At Kriya, festivals are about more than just rituals. We use them as meaningful opportunities to teach children about our rich cultural diversity, respect for tradition, and the joy of community living, all through hands-on, child-led exploration.

For Ganesh Chaturthi, our children lovingly molded their own Ganesha idols from clay and prepared the prasad. We believe celebrating festivals this way teaches children to respect every tradition, even if it’s not their own.

Holi at Kriya is a celebration of choice and respect. Some children delight in the vibrant colors, while others choose to observe or help clean up, showing inner discipline. Every child's choice is honored.

A vibrant and green Diwali celebration! We enjoyed a captivating shadow puppet show telling the story of Diwali, made sweets, and used eco-friendly crackers, filling our day with light and joy.

Christmas at Kriya was a magical blend of joy and creativity. The children baked cookies, performed a heartfelt nativity play, and sang carols, embracing the true spirit of the season.

Learning about our nation's history through art. For Independence Day, the children worked together on crafts that helped them understand the significance of the day and the beauty of the country they belong to.

Children coloring the Indian flag in preparation for Independence Day. We believe celebrations should be meaningful, helping children understand the 'why' behind what we celebrate.

The joy of Christmas celebrations in our garden. Children in Santa hats dancing and playing together, creating wonderful festive memories.

A group of happy faces during our Christmas party. These moments of shared celebration build a strong sense of community and friendship among the children.

Reindeer games! Children joyfully dancing with reindeer antlers during our outdoor Christmas celebration. Movement and play are part of every festival at Kriya.

Sweet treats and happy smiles. Enjoying cupcakes during our Christmas party is a highlight for our little ones, making the celebration extra special.

About Festivals & Cultural Celebrations

For us, a festival is not just a date on the calendar; it is a lesson in empathy and tradition. Whether it is molding clay Ganeshas with their own hands or learning the history behind Diwali through shadow puppets, we guide children to understand the 'why' before the 'how.' This hands-on approach builds respect for cultures beyond their own, turning every celebration into a moment of genuine discovery.

Learning Through Tradition

In our Montessori classrooms, we treat festivals as part of 'Grace and Courtesy'—a core component of our curriculum. Instead of simply teaching a story, we create a prepared environment where children can engage with the culture through their senses.

For example, during Ganesh Chaturthi, children don't just watch; they mold clay Ganesha idols, developing their fine motor skills while discussing the significance of the festival. When we celebrate Holi, we emphasize the choice to participate, observing how children navigate the vibrant colors and decide whether to join in or help tidy up. This autonomy is fundamental to our child-led philosophy.

Why Our Approach Matters

We often hear parents ask: 'Isn't this just about crafts?' We believe it goes deeper.

  • Respect for Diversity: By celebrating various festivals, children learn that there are many ways to express joy and faith.
  • Practical Life Skills: Baking cookies for Christmas or preparing prasad teaches patience, measuring ingredients, and following a process.
  • Community Building: We host mixed-age celebrations where older children assist the younger ones, fostering a natural family atmosphere that is unique to the Montessori method.

Connecting with Culture in Bengaluru

Whether it's the seasonal holiday camps or our weekend skill workshops at our Kalyan Nagar campus, we aim to bridge the gap between tradition and modern learning. We want children to feel connected to the roots of their heritage while developing the confidence to explore new ideas. If you are looking for a Montessori school in Bengaluru that values cultural education as much as academic growth, we invite you to visit us and see these moments in action.

At Kriya, we are a team of educators who believe children are naturally curious about the world. We don't just host festivals; we create safe, prepared spaces where kids can explore these traditions at their own pace. When we step back and observe, we see children learning to respect diverse backgrounds and connect with their peers in truly meaningful ways.
