Behind the Design: My Process and Philosophy

This is a look at the chaos and the clarity behind my projects. From site visits in Mumbai to conceptualising the next wild idea, here is how I turn a vision into a space that actually feels like you.

A quick chat at the Aux Edit. My philosophy is simple: you don't need a designer to follow trends. I believe in creating a timeless style by mixing modern and classic elements to reflect who you are.

Here I am at Design Conclave. For me, events like these are not just about networking; they are about having a heart-to-heart with the future of design and getting inspired by colliding ideas.

About this collection

You won't find me following the latest fads just because they are popular. When I am on-site or at a design event, I am looking for the practical details that make a room work, like how to place a bar unit so it feels like an experience rather than just furniture. I am obsessed with the small things, from the way light hits a specific wall texture to how we build custom storage that hides the clutter without making the room feel small.

My process is rarely about just picking colours. It is about the 'why.' Whether I am designing a home bar or a sanctuary-like mandir, I start by looking at how you actually live. If we are doing a structural overhaul in a Mumbai apartment, I am not just thinking about the floor plan; I am thinking about how we can build custom niches or use specific lighting to change the mood of the room.

I treat my projects like an extension of your personality. That is why I design custom furniture rather than sourcing generic pieces. When we collaborate, I bring in my own production team and partners like Lighttecture or Kitchen Studio India to ensure the execution is as sharp as the initial sketch.

We don't just hand over a set of drawings. I am involved from the first demo to the final lighting adjustment. If you see something in my portfolio that clicks with you, it is because we focused on the emotion of the space. My goal is to build something that feels as real as you do. If you have an idea that seems a bit crazy or too difficult to execute, bring it. That is usually where the best work happens.

I am Karan. I don't believe in safe designs or following trends. I am here to build spaces that feel alive, messy, and real because that is how life actually happens.
