About Commissioned Art & Custom Framing
When you commission a piece, we treat the process like a conversation with your interior space. Rather than offering standard prints, we manually tweak our cyanotype chemistry—often using natural infusions like tea, coffee, or vinegar—to shift those classic Prussian blues into warmer, tonal ranges that harmonize with your existing wall colours and lighting before we mount them in our handcrafted solid wood frames.
Our Process: From Vision to Wall
Every commission starts with a conversation. We want to understand the environment where the art will live, analyzing your wall textures, the light exposure, and the general mood of the room. Whether you have an image in mind or are looking for a conceptual series, we adapt our analog techniques to suit the context.
The Art of Chemistry We specialize in historical processes like Cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown. Because these are sun-dependent, manual contact printing methods, we require 2-4 weeks to produce a finished series. This time allows us to perfect the tonal scope, ensuring the prints are not just ink on paper, but unique works with the depth and texture that only handmade, 300 GSM Archival Cotton Rag paper can provide. We also work with fabric or leather substrates if that suits your interior vision.
Framing and Presentation We believe the frame is as important as the image it holds. We partner with local artisans like The Deshi Gallery to create custom, solid wood frames in Teak, Steam Beech, or Rosewood. Every commissioned piece is mounted with acid-free archival mat board and float glass, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity detailing the specific process used.
FAQ
Do I need to be an artist to commission a work? Not at all. Whether you are an interior architect looking for a specific series for a project or a homeowner wanting to fill a blank wall, we guide you through the process.
Can I use my own photos? Yes, we frequently work with client images, provided they have the right contrast for our contact printing methods. We will discuss this during the initial briefing.
