About Architectural Details: Capes & Hoods

When we construct a structured hood or heavy cape, the weight distribution is our primary concern. We use reinforced mesh or double-layered fabrics to ensure the piece maintains its architectural shape without pulling at your neckline, allowing you to move through your event without constant adjustment.

In bridal and festive fashion, we often see a reliance on classic flow and delicate drapes. At our Defence Colony studio, we shift that focus toward the body as an architectural space. Our capes and hoods are not merely accessories. They are structural components designed to frame the face and extend the silhouette.

We utilize heavy-duty internal corsetry, featuring 10 to 12 steel bones, to ground these voluminous additions. By building a solid foundation in the bodice, we can support the weight of a floor-sweeping cape or a high-rise structured hood. This is how we achieve that contrast between the sharp, rigid forms of the garment and the fluid, soft movement of the fabric when you walk.

We work primarily with high-grade materials like Neoprene, Italian Satin, and architectural mesh. These fabrics hold the shapes we create, whether it is a crisp, sculptural hood that frames your features or a cape that falls from the shoulder with calculated precision.

For brides looking to move away from traditional veils, these hooded gowns offer a modern, powerful alternative. They provide an immediate sense of theater and presence. If you are planning an outfit for a cocktail night, a Sangeet, or a wedding reception, these silhouettes offer a balance of comfort and drama. We recommend booking a consultation at least 30 to 45 days in advance so we can ensure the fit of the bodice is perfectly calibrated to carry the specific cape or hood you choose.
